Testers needed for Sketchup VR visualization software

Hi everyone!

My name is Jack and I'm a programmer at IrisVR, a company developing software that lets architects and designers create VR walkthroughs from their native Sketchup files in one click (with plans to roll in other modeling software/file formats in the future).

Right now we're in an early access phase where user feedback is invaluable and we're looking for testers that have DK2s and some Sketchup experience, or at least a Sketchup file on hand that you want to walk around in. If this sounds right up your alley, let us know who you are and what your rig is like over at app.irisvr.com. Below is a screenshot of our app running an SKP model of Manhattan that I downloaded from the Sketchup warehouse, with our toggleable navigation/information GUI positioned on the right side of the view.

If anyone has any questions about our application, I'd be happy to answer them!

I solved the problem simply by scaling up my Sketchup models by 20% before viewing them. This app really blows me away. It remains performant no matter how large or complex a scene I throw at it. I've been going through the model warehouse and cramming all kinds of fun stuff into scenes and walking through them. Really great stuff. I'd love to have a no clipping option though!

@TheArchitectUK: I'd love to get your opinion on it as someone with a foot in the architecture world and another in the graphics world! Our Gear VR app should be widely available mid-May and will support stereoscopic 3D panoramas from renderers like V-Ray, while our desktop app for the Rift and HTC Vive supports full 3D scene loading and navigation from native CAD formats (SKP, RVT, etc). If you'd like to chat about either of these more, shoot me a PM; I might be able to get a beta in your hands soon!

@jeffgoldwarf: Thanks so much for the kind words! We've got a no-clip option in there, but it's not super obvious; you can activate it using the Y button on an Xbox controller or the right arrow key. For an overview of this feature and several others, check out the tutorial accessible from the launcher's menu. The scale issue is a different matter, however; it sounds like you may have found a bug, since the measurements are copied 1:1 from the Sketchup API. Could you PM me your email address so I can see what I can do to help you out? I'd hate for you to have to scale every model before walking through it. 🙂

So I went your site, it seems the CV1 isn't supported yet?

I was able to open my sketchup model on the pedestal. But the only buttons that worked were the ones to rotate the model, both on the keyboard and the controller.

The menu nor the ability to teleport into the model worked for me.

HTC Vive ... not working with 0.3.3 (most recent build).  No menu and no teleport working.
