Hey guys, here's a new interactive cinema piece we created.

Continuing our excitement around cinematic interactive narratives for virtual reality, we put together a new concept piece. We brought back some old 90s rendering tricks to VR that work surprisingly well. I don't want to spoil the surprise so we'll delve into details later.

If you're interested in the details, we blog about our process at http://blog.kiteandlightning.la/. You can also hit me up on the twitters (@ikrimae).

The usual Oculus Rift bindings:

‘W,S’ – Move forward/back
‘A,D’ – Move left/right
‘Q,R’ – Turn the camera left/right

Feel free to share and redistribute, just give us credit. We don’t have a license for all of the content here, so we can’t use our normal license to allow people to remix things but hopefully in the future, we’ll release stuff that others can use.

This is really a fantastic demo and will absolutely be on my top 10 list for demoing the Rift. However, I have yet to get to the end of the demo, or even past the singing part without it crashing on me. My system has always been rock solid and have played The Cave with no issues. It kicks me to desktop and still appears to be running in the background as I can still hear the game but I can no longer go back in. I have to shut the demo down by using control manager. It appears to be random, occurring at different times in the experience. I updated to the latest version of Quicktime but still experiencing this problem. Going to redownload the demo and try again. BTW, running at 1080 and appears smooth to me which I think is quite impressive.

EDIT: Reinstalled but same problems. Wondered if maybe related to quicktime. uninstalled quicktime and ran demo again (now seeing the white boxes) and still kicking me out of game.

Absolutely outstanding experience. By far the best I've ever seen. This should be required viewing for anyone trying the Rift for the first time. Bravo!

Some genuine laughs were had. Great addition to the demo. Oddly enough, the 3D images seemed out of place as they were too clean, too bright and too large. Perhaps setting them back away from the view a bit in addition to reducing their brightness to match the surround area will help them blend in like your video of the actor did.

For the video of the actor in the car, you might want to set it further in the back of the car. Hard to explain, but at the moment it makes him seem like a short guy all up against the driving wheel. The dancing on top of the car was perfect though.

Great to hear you got some good laughs. Ditto on the 3D Stereo imagery; we have a lot of tweaking to do to make them feel right for people across the board. Right now we just adjusted them based on our individual settings but I have to do some legit whiteboarding to figure out the right parameters.

Yikes; let me get back to you after GDC. One other person had it crash on them all the time so I'll send you a debug build so we can extract crashlogs.
