The Persistence: First VR game to support DLSS and RTX raytraced rendering - arriving June 11 2021!

To my knowledge this is the first VR game to support both DLSS and RTX raytraced rendering - but the system requirements won't be low - Nvidia recommends a Series 30 video card. Some trailers:

The Persistence Enhanced will feature:

  • DXR implementation: Realtime shadows, Reflections and Realtime Global Illumination
  • Full DLSS support for NVIDIA® RTX Supported Graphics Cards
  • Improved effects and particles
  • Improved UI
  • Adjustable frame rate lock settings  - 30 / 60 / 120 / 144 / Unlimited

Quality of Life Improvements:

Below are the following improvements that have been possible to implement with this update:

  • Improved menu screens, comfort options and HUD scaling
  • Manual language change
  • Game-feel improvements
  • Improved Windowed Mode
  • Additional monitor support
  • Customisable controls and Weapon Hotswapping
  • HUD Scaling Improved Menu Screens
  • VR Graphical Settings options
  • Mouselook now free, rather than locked to the middle button
  • General bug fixes

But it's not all roses and violets - the game requires a gamepad, thus no support for Touch or Knuckles.

The game is 50 % off now on Steam:

The VR trailer - taken from PS4, but at least this game is not a low-poly Quest port:

Note that the game has been available in the Rift Store, but currently has been removed:

Btw, Wrench may have been first to get RTX ray-tracing and DLSS support - but I don't consider Wrench are real game, but an app. Devs call it a mechanic simulator, so maybe something in between, lol.

Tried the game for the first time today. Some said that the game is soaked in temporal antialiasing (TAA) making it extremely blurry using lcd hmds. But I used the CV1 ss 2.0 and the game looked great - there are no graphics settings in-game, so devs decide what you get. Note the RTX patch arrives in 2 days, so I was just trying to experience the game before RTX arrives.

The Steam version supports native Oculus drivers, thus no reason to be sad about the game being unavailable in the Oculus Store.

The need for a gamepad is really bad, it's kinda spooky having 2 dead-ish arms constantly attached to your left and right sides, lol - but it may add to the horror 😉

This game really needs a facelift, right now it's good, but RTX may lift it from good to great...

My review from Steam - for now the game is 9/10 to me - really awesome with a few flaws (click to see larger image):

Forgot to mention the sound - and sound is incredibly well done in this game, but I'm fully convinced that's also due to the amazing Rift CV1 speakers.

Just make sure you're using a sound system capable of deep bass and high fidelity for this game, do not underestimate the massive immersive power of high-quality sound.

Maybe I'm a bit slow these days, lol - I thought that we got The Persistence Enhanced because devs wanted to make a (VR) game with awesome raytracing effects and DLSS for PC users.

Now I'm no longer sure that's correct. I'm starting to think the only reason we've got this awesome new PC(VR) game is due to one thing, namely:

Spoiler

- and the game is right here:

https://store.playstation.com/concept/227519

- and looks like this:

Thus not sure we would have gotten The Persistence Enhanced if it wasn't for the PS5. Nothing wrong with that, as the quality is awesome - and PS5 supports raytracing too. I can only hope that this game is the first of many PCVR games coming to PC thanks to the PlayStation5.

Btw, never really tried the game without raytracing and DLSS, but gave it a shot yesterday. The Enhanced Edition is quite a lot enhanced even without raytracing and DLSS, so I stand corrected - this is an awesome VR game also for users who might be using a GTX 1060-1080 or similar non-RTX cards. But don't take my word for it - try it, you can always refund the game if you don't like it.

Note that the sale ends in 2 hours - now it's only $15, very soon it's $30, thus don't hesitate for too long 😉

I greatly enjoyed this new review, lol
