The Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR is... not very good.

I owned the regular game for I while in my Steam library, but I only played few hours because I was patiently waiting for the VR version. Yesterday I purchased the VR DLC on Steam for $10 (and I wasn't very happy about having to give them more money just for the VR support, but ok, whatever), the problem is that the game in VR is probably one of the most nausea-inducing game I've ever played (and last year I forced myself through play session of Half-Life 2 and Alien Isolation, also very nauseating). The game runs very smoothly on my machine (i7, GTX980) but I can't play it for more than 10 minutes without starting to feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. We all know that FPS games are very hard to get right in VR, but they didn't make any effort in trying to make a better navigation system. Every time you rotate the view with the right stick, is like a punch in the guts. I had to close my eyes every time I wanted to change direction, and that's really not what a game should do to you. I know there is a "comfort" play mode, but that basically turns the game into a slideshow of 360° images, without the possibility to move around freely.
I'm really disappointed, I had great expectations for the VR version of this game, but it seems I won't be able to play it. So if you plan to buy this game and play it in VR be prepared to feel sick, unless you have a very strong stomach.

@ the moment I'm playing Fallout 4 with my Vive / VORPX. I'm using Keyboard and mouse.
I would like to play the VR version of "the vanishing of ethan carter " with keyboard and mouse too.

Now this is an old thread and all, but could you just implement snap turning ? All it needs is a slider for how many degrees and an analogue - digital conversion for the thumbstick input, i bet thats no more than 5 minutes in ue4. It would solve all the "Turning Nausea" comments in an instant. I dont really u nderstand why u went for the long haul and implemented a completely new movement system for Vr when all we really need is snap turning.

Hiya.

Did you try any of these
https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/34493/the-vanishing-of-ethan-carter-vr-is-very-good/p...

It helped me get over the motion feeling, now can play very freely easily with controller.
FIrst step is to tone down the sensitivity a lot!

Hey pjenness, thanks for the link ! I personally dont suffer "much" from nausea anymore, but its just annoying that they left out such an essential feature as snap turning, its easy to implement and works beautifully ingame. I can play very fast shooters like Quake 1 all day with snap turning, theres no need to turn down sensitivity at all.

I have not been able to play this game much due to intense motion sickness. I will try turning down the sensitivity to see if it helps in my case. This is the last game I own where motion sickness is a problem. I've already become comfortable with games like Albino Lullaby and Eve: Valkyrie.

Ha...just played it for first time on CV1  (was using DK2)...it feels a bit different. Maybe the controller or the clarity.

Make sure you not walking diagonally..my stomach churned a little. Was the xbox controller, feels difference to my PS3 controller so  I wasnt walking forward correctly.

Definitely a gorgeous game tho.

I have uninstalled mine for now in the hope they will bring in mouse and keyboard support at some point when Oculus ease up on the controller embargo.

It is obvious something is wrong from all the posts about this. I strongly suggest the devs listen to the feedback.

Just to save some typing:

1. I do not need advice to stand up, not turn my body, stand on one leg, rub my tummy and close one eye to feel comfortable playing it.

2. If it works for you then great but clearly it does not work for a lot of us.

3.  I do not get sick, I have had a headset since the DK1 in 2013 before low persistence and cameras.

4. It really is a great game and the title of the post is not true, if you like playing FPS games with a controller then you may love it.

Oh god, just thinking about playing this game in VR literally starts to make me nauseous... 😞

But I want to add I appreciate the DEV's supporting VR all the same.  I personally just have trouble with many of these FPS games. Technolust is extremely hard for me to play as well, I've actually thrown up from playing it.

I understand Ad1ft has enabled mouse and keyboard support in its latest patch.

i am totally agree with you,..Every FPS VR games should add "Snap Turn" settings and snap turn angle,..that won't make you feel nausea anymore and still holding full vr experiences,..everyone know that the Rift is made just for sitting, standing experience so you can't turn your body in real life because if you turn your back to the Rift Constellation Camera then the Tracking won't correct anymore,..the only solution for Oculus Rift now is add snap turn settings to games...yeah the comfort mode of this game is suck,..it's comfortable but they had killed almost of the vr experiences,..i can say the developers doesn't have experiences to make a vr game,..

ps:sorry for my bad english...
