The Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR is... not very good.

I owned the regular game for I while in my Steam library, but I only played few hours because I was patiently waiting for the VR version. Yesterday I purchased the VR DLC on Steam for $10 (and I wasn't very happy about having to give them more money just for the VR support, but ok, whatever), the problem is that the game in VR is probably one of the most nausea-inducing game I've ever played (and last year I forced myself through play session of Half-Life 2 and Alien Isolation, also very nauseating). The game runs very smoothly on my machine (i7, GTX980) but I can't play it for more than 10 minutes without starting to feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. We all know that FPS games are very hard to get right in VR, but they didn't make any effort in trying to make a better navigation system. Every time you rotate the view with the right stick, is like a punch in the guts. I had to close my eyes every time I wanted to change direction, and that's really not what a game should do to you. I know there is a "comfort" play mode, but that basically turns the game into a slideshow of 360° images, without the possibility to move around freely.
I'm really disappointed, I had great expectations for the VR version of this game, but it seems I won't be able to play it. So if you plan to buy this game and play it in VR be prepared to feel sick, unless you have a very strong stomach.

i got this in the sale, is there any way to disable it from automatically turning you when you turn your head? this was causing me motion sickness until i realized what it was.

I bought it yesterday too in the sale, even though I read lots of negative reviews about motion sickness, and just tried it after I read your post : you're right, even with my "VR legs", it's pretty hard to play.....BUT if you have 3 sensors, just FORGET TOTALLY your right stick and turn your whole body, and this game becomes really great ! Absolutely beautiful and comfortable this way, I love it 🙂 (or you can blink while turning with the right stick and get kind of a snap turn)

Been a long time since I played that one, pretty disappointing VR integration and the developers grabbed the cash and ran. I buried it in the garden and said a few words over it, mainly swear words.  There is no way I am digging that up again.

the problem is that even if you dont turn with the right stick and only turn your physical body, its impossible to walk forward and look to the side at the same time - the game forces your body to turn which ever way youre looking as you move forward.

Who the hell does that in real life? I think this is left in from them attempting to make it more comfortable for seated users. Well, it does the complete opposite for standing users who can turn their body.

I tend to agree but I love when people ask this question, because it gives me a chance to...

A bit disappointed to read this. I bought it last year, even though I didn't like the trailer video shown before release, but bought it based entirely on the feedback in this forum.
