The Vanishing of Ethan Carter - no OR support after all

Although developer The Astronauts had previously announced that Ethan Carter would ship with Oculus Rift support, they confirmed on their Facebook page this morning that it would not be shipping with Rift support, after all. They went on to say that "there's a chance we will add it later" - but as many of us know, if they haven't been making VR considerations at every step of development, that probably isn't going to happen as the amount of work becomes untenable when you aren't continuously integrating.

Here's the original quote, after being asked if the game was still shipping with Rift support:

No, but there's a chance we will add it later (we try to support 3D in general from the start, though).

Such a shame. Exploration-centric games like Ethan Carter would make for perfect VR experiences.

Its not a definite no though, so I'm still hopefully....but if VorpX DK2 turns out well, we won't have to worry about direct support.

Too bad, this would have been a perfect game for VR... They might change their mind if the game is successful enough and many people ask for Oculus support. The game looks gorgeous and gameplay seems interesting. Rift or not, I will buy it anyway!

Bump!

Please tell me this is possible. Just bought this game and am drooling over getting it to work with DK2.
Shouldnt be too difficult since its ue3, anyone know of a way to make it happen?

I've been playing it with VorpX. It plays very well in Geometric mode with a few noticeable reflection glitches. It runs a bit slow on my old computer in Geo-mode (i5 2500k & Gforce 650 ti boost) but looks gorgeous. It's the most realistic game I've played so far with DK2. You can also run it in Z-mode of curse with better FPS.

A member at VorpX explains how to run it.

"make a copy of AstronautsGame-Win64-Shipping.exe and rename it to UDK.exe. When you start this UDK.exe you get full geometry 3d.
You should also do the following:
1. disable mouse acceleration in the game.
2. set GlobalSystemCameraFOVAngle=150.000000 in AstronautsSystemSettings.ini in your My Games\The Vanishing of Ethan Carter\AstronautsGame\Config Folder."

Credit to artura and hope he/she doesn't mind I share it.

Hope they'll give it direct support. The game is perfect for VR.

I've managed to run the game with VorpX. It looks beautiful!
However feeling of the scale is a little odd - it looks like everything is half size of the real world - are there any options to tweak and fix it?

Using settings that Aujik shared I cannot see "in-game visions - investigation clues", it seems like they are rendered on a different layer or depth. Does anyone knows how to get it right with VorpX?

Everything else works well. This title is one of the best I have seen on DK2

The "3D-Strength" parameter in the vorpX ingame menu also changes the perceived scale. If you lower it, the world becomes larger. The next vorpX version will have a dedicated profile for the game with a better suited default value.

Good news.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.
