Ever wanted to play a game where you control all of your teammates? Now you can in this single player co-op shooter!
Time Rifters is a single player co-op shooter where 'time rifts' allow you to be your own teammates. In each arena you will have 4 chances to defeat as many enemies as possible, but you won't be alone because with each new life you'll be joined by replays of your previous lives. Strategically plan your attack with yourself in the past and future.
Time Rifters was built from the ground up for the Oclus Rift and was a finalist in the Oculus/IndieCade 2013 VR Jam. We think VR games will be a big hit once the consumer Oculus Rift is released. Until then we are making sure that the game works great without a Rift too (but it's way more awesome in VR).
Single Player Co-op
Let's Replay system (asynchronous multi-player mode)
Developed for standard monitors & the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset
Time Rifters is filling up with awesome Let's Replays, so we've just updated the Let's Replay menu so you can easily see which ones you've already played and your highscore.
The Steam avatars used for the Let's Replays looked so cool we wanted to show them off more. The avatars & custom Steam Workshop item descriptions are now showcased in the clone room before each arena.
Amazing! 😄 Congrats on the successful launch. One of my most anticipated Rift game since the Jam and I'm not disappointed. I love how almost all the levels are really unique, both in looks and mechanics. The first group of levels seems to be little too easy though? I missed only one cube on my first playthrough. Good thing the rest was a lot more challenging. The let's replay and especially the dev commentary was really cool.
I have couple problems though: 1. I'm using the DK1 and the game works great. But launching it is a bit weird. I can't launch in Rift mode because it goes fullscreen and it's totally black. I tried launch commands for windowed but it didn't work. I'm running the Config Utility, not sure if it works if I stop it. But running the game in normal mode opens it up in a 1920x1080 windowed Rift mode and then I can play it. I'm not sure if I'm able to play it on regular monitor without unplugging the Rift, but I'm not planning to do that so it's not that big of a problem.
2. Another problem is with the controls. Every other scheme works well except the decouple pitch one. The cursor was off-placed, it was actually pointing how the headset was oriented when I started the game (and since there seems to be no reset orientation button (because of the brilliant rotation system) I couldn't set the cursor to point forwards) and I couldn't use that scheme. Same thing with when using a controller.
3. Also with my rig (i5@2.67GHz, 8Gb of RAM and 7850) I sometimes get a drop in frames. In some cases it drops as low as 40. I've noticed it when there's a lots of cubes for example in the egypt level. Though I had the quality options at high, don't know if there's anything you can do about it, otherwise the game seems really well optimized!
I'd really love to see more of this. Are you planning to create and release more levels in the future or will you work on some new project?
It seems like the "Game Mode" has changed from the DK1 Demo? Sadly I am really not happy with these changes
1. My Weapon Progress resets after every episode. I always have to start from zero, I had a lot of fun replaying every level and upgrading all of my weapons on every char in the DK1 Demo. That was one of the points, that kept me playing Time Rifters.
2. Why can't I select a single level? I always have to play the whole campaign? I can select the experiment mode, but thats kind of odd/boring, since this doesn't affect scores or weapons.
3. I cannot select weapons in the 2nd/3rd/4th arena. Only one weapon selection on the beginning of the Chapter?
Besides that the game looks and feels really great and I am sorry to say that, but the points mentioned above really annoy me! I want to develop end evolve my characters, my weapons. I want to play one level as many times I want. I don't want to have to play the whole episode every time as a bloody beginner (reagarding the weapons).
I wish to have the DK1 Demo Gameplay. Or am I missing something?
Good feedback nn23. The longer progression in 0.5 had a lot of positives, it was more RPG-like. We want to return to that kind of style for a future project, and use Steam's early access so that feedback like yours makes it into the game before it's released.
We've released a beta build that people can opt into that is built with the Oculus 0.4.3 Beta SDK. We aren't going to make this the default build until the performance issues are figured out.
The hardest thing for me to get used to is that the place I am aiming at is not the center of the screen. It's very hard to play this way, was it always implemented like this? Because I keep turning myself around very easily (I am on a swivel chair) and suddenly even when I am looking forward I seem to be aiming at the fringe of my vision. Then I am craning my neck and I don't know what I am doing wrong because in reality, I have turned my body 90 degree to the right lol.
Also it's fine if you have static progression where you lose all of your items but I don't think this game has the variety to keep me playing the first few levels. Restart level is also way too convenient for everything you lose as well, upgraded weapons makes an enormous difference.
