Some Index dudes discussed this game and mentioned it may be one of the greater VR releases this year. I just bought it, but won't have time to test it before tonight. Get it here:

Beauty isn't cheap, and you'll need a highest-end rig for this game, devs recommend:

 

RECOMMENDED:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: AMD ryzen 5 3600 6-core processor 3.59GHz (or Intel Core i7-9700F @ 3.00GHz) or greater
    • Memory: 32 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Nvidia geforce rtx 2080 ti or greater
    • Storage: 12 GB available space

 

32GB ram and i7-9700K are very high requirements too. If true, probably best experienced using a new Series 30 or RX 6000 Series gpu. 

 

The game supports Index, Vive and Rift. For WMR the devs have said:

 

"We haven't tested it with WMR, but control scheme for WMR controllers was established, though can't guarantee for now that everything will be as smooth as possible. We will try to find some WMR headset and update steam page with information of WMR support."

Great game - but took me some time to figure it out. First hardware riddle was why the game performed so extremely poorly using my RTX 3090. No matter if I used res 50%, 100%, 150%, 200% or 250% the game performed poorly in 90 Hz. Then checked my trusty fpsVR app, and that app said the game never went above 80 fps. So this game is soft-locked in 80 fps and will perform very badly if you use anything but 80 Hz. Changing to 80 Hz the game was smooth as silk - could even use res 300%, and now the game looked and performed mindblowingly awesome.

 

So remember 80 Hz - at least with the Index.

 

There's no Index finger tracking, but lighting and textures etc. are of the highest quality. Also no full locomotion, but like Room VR you're here to solve puzzles - there's teleport though and snap turning.

 

Unfortunately I should have eaten more veggies as a kid to grow a larger brain, lol, so I'm still working on the *prolonged dry cough!* puzzles. There's a hint system, but I'm stubborn - I need no help, lol.

 

But do get this game, it should work on many rigs (using res 150 - 200 % I bet a GTX 1080 is fine too), just remember the 80 Hz in case you experience strange performance.

 

My rating for now - 8/10, but I need to crack to puzzles...

 

Res 300% didn't cause more than 10GB vram use according to fpsVR, so res 200% should be safe for res 200% and 8GB vram cards.

 

Btw, if some wonder what true VR games look like, I took some in-game shots - using Index res 300 % 😇

Btw, I just contacted the devs about the 80 fps soft-lock - meaning you need to play this game in 80 Hz or it will stutter (fps are locked to 80). Dev just wrote that they are looking into it:

 

"Thanks a lot for your investigation 🙂
We will look into the issue and fix it asap."

 

Maybe they are all using Rift-S hmds!

- Then again, both Index and Quest 2 support 80 Hz, although the majority of Index users probably close to never use 80 Hz... 

 

Another observation - when forcing SteamVR res 300% with the Index, I noticed fpsVR registered I was using res 450% 😮 Maybe the game automatically adds 50% to your SteamVR res... 🤔

EDIT: Just found out I was not using res 300% in this game, but res 450%. I have corrected the number in this post.

 

Devs have just patched the game:

 

Update Notes for Aug 21
  • Removed FPS lock on 80 FPS. The frame rate was set with smoothing from 60 to 144.
  • Now background audio plays even if player outside of hearing radius.

 

I can confirm that the game now works perfectly. Going from 80 to 90 Hz I still get 1:1 fps/Hz - that's solid 90 fps using res 450% with the RTX 3090. Testing 120 Hz I did get reprojections. Res 450% in 90 Hz looks amazing and may work best with no motion smoothing. 

 

This is kinda my new Room VR game - and it's at least as hard if you do not cheat and use hints 😉

Without using any hints, I felt some pride figuring out the correct order to open the Zodiac drawers, lol - and got a RTX card, what kind of product placement is this?! 🤣

At least to me, Virtual Reality has always been about creating new realities, and therefore the illusion may benefit greatly when experiencing objects that look real - even if you know they are not. That's one reason Alyx is considered to most impressive example of virtual reality ever made - because Alyx looks quite real. Or as real as possible with our current gpus. Low-poly models, where round shapes are presented as let's say octagons, completely ruin immersion to me - or bad low-res textures (or lack of textures). 

 

The best part of VR may lie in the details. The small objects that you don't always consciously notice, but which add to the sum of all parts. For example, check out this maybe boring shot from Detective VR:

It's just a boring wagon/trolley with some papers. But it looks nice, right? What caught my eye was the wheel - it really looks round doesn't it? Let's zoom in:

Really looks close to perfectly round to me. And devs spent much time getting everything right with the wooden and metal parts. It looks real, even if it's virtual. VR can't get much better than this. 2c.

The video looks really cool, but at some point I realized that no matter how much I liked comics, I would not want to do nft related to this. But I prefer this instead of any cryptocurrency project. I've been wanting to transfer my project to the Elrond blockchain for a long time and I'm glad that I finally managed to do it.
