I'm quite happy to play games in 3D if I can't get them into VR one way or another, and I've used TriDef trial version to do this (along with VD).
However, as I have an issue with Tridef that I've not been able to resolve and have had no response about after asking many times over the last month or two.
To be honest, I'd be happy with any app that will display my games in stereoscopic SBS on my monitor, but it seems TriDef is about all there is of any use (I tried Vireio, but it didn't want to work well). Unfortunately a lot of the posts I find when looking for info are from well before the Rift was released, too.
Anyway - about TriDef - is it worth buying for this? I don't want to purchase it and then end up with something that either gets dropped - it has been around for several years - or becomes incompatible after a short time. I know they have said they won't support VR, and this is where I have concerns, too. I don't care if they support VR, as long as I can get that SBS display on my monitor that VD can put into the Rift.
Trying to get info on this - even on their own site - has been like trying to get blood/water/wine out of stone (whichever phrase you prefer).
What's the question you have? I would recommend tridef because you can create your own profiles (I've made a few and posted on the official forums). That said, some games are simply not supported at all due to their game engines such as Metal Solid V TPP.
It can be a bit fiddly getting games to work in VD but when it does it's pretty mint. One massive tip is to run the game in windowed or borderless windowed if any particular game isn't booting properly.

No - they just don't officially support VR headsets.
I just bought the licence anyway, for 3D. It works well - I hope to use it for some older racing games, too. Up to now I just used the Virtual Desktop or BigScreen theatres for driving in rFactor, GTR2 and Race 07 series, which is good already, but with TriDef I hope to get them into 3D.
I think it is more than just not officially supporting it, they have not done any work on it for years. Unless I missed something. I must admit I have not been on the website for a long time.
I bought it originally and got really peed off when they just stopped development and just ignored any questions or requests for improvements on the forum. Forty pounds down the toilet and had to then buy VORPX.
Did they add CV1 support? Does it support greater than DX9 now?
No - I don't use it for playing in VR, I use it for playing in 3D in my Rift
Did I misunderstand? They are updating TriDef continually - and have no intention of dropping 3D gaming support, I recently read from the dev on their site. Oh - and it supports up to DX11 now - latest version is 7.1
Edit: No VR support - as before - but 3D/SBS support continues and gets updated. They only post announcements in the forum - support is now by email only, forum is user to user.
