UE4 Demos [Win x64] [UE 4.4] [OVR 0.4.1] [DK2]

I've compiled a number of the UE4 Demos for Windows 64-bit using Unreal 4.4 branch and Oculus 0.4.1.

Since its a modified build to support 0.4.1, its still a little quirky but one benefit is not having to pause the service but anyway let me know if it works for anyone. Most of the demos will be compiled with teddy0k's Scalability Plugin which is needed for most of the demos (Couch Knights is not, I can rebuild if needed)

I recommend lowering settings to Medium or lower for most hardware for the realistic demos. Most machines are not capable of rendering the scenes with Epic settings (Couch Knights works fine on Epic for me).

Some recommendations:
  • Use the "Extend Desktop to the HMD" Display Mode.

  • Make the Rift your Primary Display device

  • The Oculus Service should not be paused

  • Close or minimize any 3D enabled tools (especially Unreal Editor)

  • Use ATI or NVidia Control Panel to force 75 FPS on the Rift Monitor

The Scalability UI may popup on the Rift Display. Not sure what I can do about that but it is difficult to use when it does that. It does not respond to Win+Left or Win+Right. I use Actual Tools Multiple Monitors which is setup to force move windows to desktop with the mouse but that is not a real solution for most users.

What has worked for me is to turn off the Rift. Start the demo. Select the options then start the Rift and then press Play. I have 2 monitors and it moves the dialog from one display to the next but works for me and may not work for
different configurations.

Sometimes I found I had to use Alt-Enter multiple times with game focused to force the game to show up properly.

If the Health and Safety Warning screen does not go away and it frequently does not, I added a command to make it go away. Open console with ~ key and type: hmd hsw

If you are not using an English keyboard and ~ is not available then you can change <Game>\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Input.ini and add the following to the end:
[/Script/Engine.InputSettings]
ConsoleKey=F12

Looks like I'm using some bad defaults in the GameUserSettings. I did not touch those but its autodetecting bad resolutions in "<Demo>\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\GameUserSettings.ini"

You can edit that and set those manually to something more appropriate (I now use something like):
[/Script/Engine.GameUserSettings]
bUseVSync=True
ResolutionSizeX=1920
ResolutionSizeY=1080
LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=1920
LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=1080
bUseDesktopResolutionForFullscreen=True
FullscreenMode=1

I´m getting nothing but judder in these demo´s unfortunately except kouch nights. Anyone knows whats going on? I really would like to get the hangglider demo working since I'm doing that in real life. Showing it to other people would be awesome! 8-)

Hangglider works for me only with everything at low. Even then I get the occasional judder.

I know this may not pertain to the subject directly, but where can I find out how to set up UE4 with DK2? THe current information for the Rift doesn't seem to work, getting "Unknown Command" when following the tutorial. Is it not compatible with DK2 right now? (Yes my DK2 is on when I'm going through the process)

Or do I have to be creating a project using C++? (I also tried the VR blueprints which also don't work)

In the effects demo, I went outside and circled the tower, like a bird.

So far. most emotional experience I have had. Cannot wait to see more stuff in UE4 and cannot wait for my new rig.

None of these UE4 demos run for me. I'm on Win 7 x64, i5 4770K, GTX 760.

Literally nothing happens when I run the binaries. I get a small load animation on my mouse cursor for a moment, and then nothing. No processes running or anything.

I had this issue with some of the original UE4 tech demos too - is there anything that I could be missing?

I have a 780 TI with I7 and still has very slight judder on Epic but disappears if I drop to high.

I upgraded to Win7 SP1, and now they work great. Awesome.

I was noticing a lot of judder as well and couldn't figure out why. I started dropping every slider one by one until I figured it out. This was on the Mobile Demo, so it may need a bit more tweaking for the others.

What I noticed was that even with everything on low, and Pixels Per DisplayPixel on 1.0x there was still judder. When I dropped that down to 0.5x, butter smooth! So I started bumping it back up and even at 0.9x it was very acceptable, not perfect but much better. Here's some more in-depth results. Hopefully this helps, or better yet someone can explain the differences between these settings.

PPDP 1.0x + Epic All = 50 FPS heavy stutter
PPDP 0.9x + Epic All = 75 FPS smooth with slightest stutter when angel statues in view
PPDP 0.9x + High All = 62 FPS heavy stutter
PPDP 0.8x + Epic All = 75 FPS smooth with slight jump when angel statues in view like once per 3 or 4 head shakes

Anything lower than 0.8x and the pixelation starts to become noticeable. I'm just wondering if anyone here knows why these settings work as they do, especially the 0.9x Epic to High with decreased FPS.

Hopefully this helps a few people out and maybe somebody else can help out.

Any way to force -nofly and slow to walk instead of running?
These demos are great but gets sickness with the super run speed and noclip fly mode.
