Uninstall Meta Horizon Worlds (working tutorial!)

With meta's latest update they have now forced users to download horizon worlds without consent, and have disabled the ability to uninstall it, it's like microsoft edge all over again. However, using the help of APK file managers, you can uninstall it.

Reasons why you might want to uninstall it:
  • Privacy Concerns: All App Permissions are permanently on (Files, Mic, Physical Space, etc).
  • Takes up Space: Not too much space, only 1.7 gigs, this still can be an annoyance for people though.
  • You just don't want it: It's your headset and you want to be in control of what's on it.

(These of course are just my opinions, I'm not having a go at people who like Worlds, this is just here for people who don't like it.)

You will need Developer Mode, and the ability to sideload APKs onto your headset. You will also need an APK file manager, the one I used is linked Here.

Using said File Manager, search up 'worlds' (or manually locate it). You should see an app with the meta horizon logoThen using the file manager's utilities, simply uninstall.

This will uninstall the app, however the menu clutter will still exist. Me personally, I set all Horizon Games to 'locked' so I can clearly see which apps are which. Actually removing them from the app library would most likely require the use of some sort of system patcher, and as far as I know, those do not exist (yet, maybe).

To remove the Portal from your virtual environment, go to Settings → Environment Setup → Interactive Objects, and set 'Portal to Meta Horizon Worlds' to Off

You may have to repeat the process, as meta will keep trying to reinstall it every now and then.

I have created a Video Tutorial HERE:

Maybe I'm missing the point but I don't currently see any problems with my Q3/512Gb.  It's not that I'm forced to use horizon worlds and it doesn't seem to take much room on my Q3/512Gb headset, nor do I see this when viewing my installed apps.  Also, I don't want or need a developer account and I would be worried that adding this plus sideloaded mods may effect future meta updates.  Again, maybe I'm missing something here?

I'd usually ignore it but by default all app permissions are on, File Access, Mic Access, Physical Space Access, and you can't disable them. I know some people are fine with having them on, but it's still frustrating meta offers no official way to get rid of it

@TomCgcmfc  I probably wouldn't use my headset half as much as I do if I didn't have dev mode on it. A lot of my games/experiences benefit from a completely unlimited boundary, which you can't do without it. I suppose it's horses for courses depending on your use of the headset.

maybe youve not got the latest firmware but it appears that they are now forcing people to use it..            every time i start my quest up it automatically starts up horizon worlds!   theres no option to uninstall it or to turn off the autostart.         my app library is now full of random horizon worlds i never downloaded and theres no way to hide or get rid of them...
