Hi, I'm a student at Sheffield Hallam University and am researching into the uses of VR in traditional third person games. I have developed a game demo with 3 scenarios, each using a different camera perspective. Your goal is to explore the various environments and look for the gateways to advance to the next area.
My testing is designed so that you play a Non-VR version first, fill out a quick survey and then play the VR version so that you can compare how using the Oculus Rift has either enhanced or detracted from the experience. There is also an option to switch between first and third person cameras on the fly so that you can decide whether the levels suit one over the other. You can use either a game controller or keyboard to control the game.
The entire experience should take approximately 20 minutes based on my prior user testing. Feedback and comments are greatly appreciated.
Additional details included in the "Controls and Instructions" text file. Thanks 🙂
PS: It may be worth noting that there are guard patrols on the second area that send you back to the start of the area if you're seen. Thought it might be a nice warning after prior user testing.
PPS: For the VR build, on the resolution window when you launch, choose 1920x1080 and tick the windowed box. I have been using Direct HMD display mode incase that makes a difference.
I gave it a shot and had no idea what I was supposed to be doing or where I'm supposed to be going. The controls are not great and at times I couldn't make him go where I wanted him to go. I will give it a try again when I have more time.
