Virtual Desktop 1.0 - Now available on Steam

Virtual Desktop is a little utility that improves your VR experience on the desktop. By efficiently replicating your desktop into the Rift, the application allows you to see your desktop on a giant virtual screen. You can browse the web, watch movies or even play non-VR games. It also allows you to launch VR games and resume from them without having to take your headset off.

After you launch Virtual Desktop, a tray icon will appear in your taskbar. From there you can manage your list of games, change your settings.

You can also drag & drop executables or shortcuts to add more games to your list.

Requirements
- Windows 8 or 10
- Oculus 1.3 Runtime

Latest Changes
- Added ability to browse 360 photos
- Added mirror to monitor feature

Hey Guy -

Did the right eye screen tearing ever get figured out?

It has probably been asked before but, it is possible to add extra virtual or existing screens around you?
Probably angled just like you would have them on a real desktop.
If that feature is implemented, it would be really great for working as I could have a lot of screens with one window at each screen for multitasking.

The tearing happens on win7 only and I'm working on a fix.

You need to have the runtime installed, the OVR service running and the DK2 turned on.

Scratch that, my splashtop drivers were interfering with the runtime or virtuadesktop drivers, all is well now

Yeah, the same for me.

But is it possible to have shortcuts or on screen menu to adjust the screen size and closeness,
while in V Desktop? Since right now, I have to constantly switch in and out between screens, until I find a
comfortable setting that works.
I agree, like Ctrl +/- or similar.

Is simulating 3D screens in the cards? So you can play a 3D Blu-ray movie, and it will behave as if you're sitting with a 3D screen with 3D glasses?

I used Virtual Desktop to play a plethora of games on a giant virtual monitor, like having an IMAX theatre to myself this afternoon. every game I attempted to play worked extremely well so long as I ran the game in Window or Fullscreen Window mode.

Great work on this.

I'd like to get my virtual desktop running at 75FPS as opposed to 60FPS where I seem to be stuck currently. Win 8/64 and Rift is showing in NVidia control panel and Windows resolution options correctly but I've not been able to get 75FPS working....

Would this be possible via disabling my physical monitor perhaps? my tests have been fruitless but maybe someone has sorted this out already?

I also get terrible chromatic aberration while using the curved screen but absolutely no aberration when I use a flat screen, known issue?.

Again, excellent work.. Very impressed with Virtual Desktop!

I've added a Full Screen option in the latest version (it's under Settings / Performance). This is a temporary fix that will allow you to run at 75 FPS if you were not able to previously. I say temporary because this is definitely not the most practical solution: it prevents you from launching any games and it comes with a set of other issues. So be sure to check It off before launching games.

Other ways to fix judder as I've mentioned in my post on reddit:
- Set your primary monitor to also run at 75Hz (sometimes lower resolutions will allow this)
- Set the rift as your primary display (this brings issues with new windows opening behind virtual desktop and not being accessible)
