Virtual Desktop 1.0 - Now available on Steam

Virtual Desktop is a little utility that improves your VR experience on the desktop. By efficiently replicating your desktop into the Rift, the application allows you to see your desktop on a giant virtual screen. You can browse the web, watch movies or even play non-VR games. It also allows you to launch VR games and resume from them without having to take your headset off.

After you launch Virtual Desktop, a tray icon will appear in your taskbar. From there you can manage your list of games, change your settings.

You can also drag & drop executables or shortcuts to add more games to your list.

Requirements
- Windows 8 or 10
- Oculus 1.3 Runtime

Latest Changes
- Added ability to browse 360 photos
- Added mirror to monitor feature

Guy,
Did I see your home theater design being used for the Xbox play demo during the Rift Event? Is it official? Will Virtual Desktop come with Windows 10?

Actually vizionvr, I just checked -- it's the Home theater from Oculus Cinema on the Gear VR (as viewed from the front row).

I have a question please. My main monitor is has an 1920x1080 resolution, but I have to disconnect it when use the my Oculus Rift DK2, as I have only 1 HDMI slot on my PC. My secondary monitor has only an 1280x1024 resolution. So will the VirtualDesktop application mirror this lower resolution to the Rift? Or is there a way to use it as 1920x1080?

You can use monitors of any resolutions with the app but you need at least one monitor (the Rift doesn't count as one).

I have a version of Virtual Desktop built against the 0.6 runtime which supports both Direct an Extended mode and would need some volunteers to try it out. Here's a link to the installer.

I'm having an issue locally which Oculus can't reproduce and I'd like to know if other people experience it as well: Once Virtual Desktop is running, open the configuration utility and open the Demo Scene. At this point, Virtual Desktop should pause and you should see the demo scene in the Rift. Then exit the demo scene by pressing escape which should bring you back to your 3D desktop. On my machine, Virtual Desktop never resumes and the image in the Rift is stuck at the last demo scene frame. Please let me know if you experience this issue.

Thanks for your help!!

The 0.6 runtime version is smooth! 14ms is nice on the eyes.

I have the same problem as you, stuck on last demo frame and virtual desktop showing N/A after exiting demo scene.

Just tried it in Direct mode. No issues with the demo scene and returning to Virtual Desktop afterwards!

Hi Guy, I did get the freeze on exiting the demo scene as you described. It came up as Error on SubmitFrame. Win 8.1 64 GTX 970 350.12. Direct mode is awesome!

I have the same issue with it getting stuck on the last frame. Tool tip says "Error on SubmitFrame".

Win7 64bit. GTX 780Ti with 353.06 drivers. 0.6.0.0 runtime.

After installing, the desktop and start menu shortcuts try to run the .msi installer from the temp directory. I had to delete them and make new ones.

I tried iracing and after exiting I'm not stuck on the last frame of the game, I'm stuck on what appears to be the last frame of virtual desktop before the game lauched. Exiting elite also gives me a stuck frame of virtual desktop, but the area which should be the desktop is black.
