Virtual Desktop is a little utility that improves your VR experience on the desktop. By efficiently replicating your desktop into the Rift, the application allows you to see your desktop on a giant virtual screen. You can browse the web, watch movies or even play non-VR games. It also allows you to launch VR games and resume from them without having to take your headset off.

After you launch Virtual Desktop, a tray icon will appear in your taskbar. From there you can manage your list of games, change your settings.

You can also drag & drop executables or shortcuts to add more games to your list.

Requirements
- Windows 8 or 10
- Oculus 1.3 Runtime

Latest Changes
- Added ability to browse 360 photos
- Added mirror to monitor feature

I'm new in here, but I've been interested in this project as it appears to be the closest thing to what I'm looking for in the coming VR explosion. I'm not much of a gamer, but the idea of throwing away my monitors and desk in favor of a VR headset and a comfy chair (PerfectChair more than likely) is tremendously appealing.

I work in InfoSec, and my ideal VR environment would look something akin to what one sees with VMWare Fusion in Unity mode: Various windows open from various instances, all accessible in one environment. I routinely have 10-20 windows open on my 3 displays, and the idea of being able to tile those in an immersive environment, then select one and bring it into center view is the ultimate ideal. Whichever platform develops this sort of productivity environment first/best will be the one that gets my money, and in my opinion, that of most of the advanced computer people out there looking for a new way to work.

Has there been any progress on outputting multiple desktops? That is a key factor, I think. Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to watching your success next year when everyone comes running to you for your app!

Suggestion: Magnifier mode. Unlike the Magnifier for Windows that is controlled by a mouse, this would be movement controlled by the headset and always centered on where you're looking. Options to alter the size of the magnified window and the zoom should be available. Even after the CV1, this should be prove very useful when interacting with a web pages.

Also getting the stuck from on exit of the demo scene. "Error on SubmitFrame". In Win 8.1, 64-bit with R9 290.

Otherwise, the performance using direct mode is incredible and the user experience of going straight into a Rift game is incredible. I presume you are going to sell this when the kinks are worked out, and hats off to you - you deserve the money for your efforts 😄 .

Hi Guys,

I just installed the Oculus 6.0.0 runtime. Now when I run Virtual Desktop I cannot get it into Fullscreen mode. It worked fine before the update. Im also running the latest Nvidia drivers for my 970.

Its very choppy when its not in fullscreen :?

Guy, have you seen this thread? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=23372&start=60

Might be related to the "error SubmitFrame" problem we're arbitrarily experiencing with the Oculus test scene and other applications when using Virtual desktop.

You can use the test build mentioned in this thread (with a few gotcha's like hang on VR exit for some and no high quality distortion). Alternatively, you can get non-fullscreen to work more smoothly by making your display go at 75 hz (or I hear by bringing the rift down to 60hz, but I never tried that).

I'm curious as to the outlook of the HQ distortion and wondering if there was any update on the notion of capturing 'real' full screen applications.
