he there ..

following rob the bot, which has been a spare time project. i was eager to create some content for my rift - but had to learn unity in the first place. so this is in fact my first approach to do something in unity at all. released it through the digital agency i'm running though - and believe it or not we got comedy central as a partner for ingame advertising, which doesn't pay off the hours sitting infront of my computer but at least feels quiet charming to get some positive attention.

Well that was a super polished experience! I enjoyed it, and especially love the one-legged hopping robot. 🙂

I took a stab at a high score but I discovered that high scores don't seem to be sent out (nor does it ask for my name). Guessing that is hard-coded for now, but that certainly would be a nice way to encourage people to practice the controls.

rad demo. nice polish. here are my thoughts

needs more:

multiplayer
first robot view option
smooth the edges of the track out so you cant get caught on them
allow the user to get into and hold a drift, ala mario kart style

he .

thanks for the feedback. yep multiplayer and mariokart gameplay would be totally cool 😉 ... but gave me a hard time to achieve what you see though. but if there's an interest from enough people i might consider developing the whole thing further. so i will keep that in mind !

concerning the highscore. should work properly - at least it did on the machines i have tested it. gotta check that.

Love the style.

However I found the controls to be stiff and the wall collision wonky.

Could be much better with some tuning.

This had me ralphing up my breakfast in about 5 minutes 😕
I think the controls are a little out of whack. It was the hyper-sensitive turning controls that had me motion sick after a few minutes. Otherwise, nice work.

he ..
thanks for the feedback. tweaking the controls should be very easy but i'm
not sure about the collisions. think i'll give it a try as well. if you like you
can help me with tweaking as a test pilot ?! would be totally awesome.

regards.

I think the main issue was that touching the wall basically stops you completely. I think it should slow you down a little bit, and then bounce you off the wall. It would feel more fluid that way.

Ridge Racer style!

If you don't/can't address the wall collision behavior, perhaps just supporting a controller with analog sticks would go a long way. I only hit walls because keyboard keys are either on or off.

Enjoyed the demo! I think the cel shaded style works really well in the DK1.
The menu/character-select screens were well put together too, very easy to view and control in the Rift.

As others have said, a bit difficult to control with the keyboard (and sides of the track) but the demo itself was really well put together and good fun.

Well done!
