[RELEASE] Ciess

Note: Ciess has been renamed and reborn as http://www.emcneill.com/ciessvr/

Download for Windows

Ciess is a cyberspace hacking sim. It’s a sort of an action/puzzle/strategy hybrid: fast-paced and cerebral at the same time.

Ciess is designed to explore the feeling of embodiment that comes naturally in VR, but in a more abstract setting. The game seeks to immerse the player in a fantasy (of being a Hollywood/cyberpunk hacker), and it experiments with extreme motion while aiming to avoid simulator sickness. By divorcing the game world from any semblance of reality, the game retains the freedom to play with distance, scale, and movement in non-realistic ways.

In short: who needs Reality? Stick with the Virtual.

Note: Supports Xbox controller or keyboard. Best enjoyed with the controller, some headphones with good bass, and a swivel chair.

Absolutely amazing. Been playing for 45 minutes straight and I've only stopped to write this reply 😉 Very well done.

Ohh my .. what a great game, and it works super fast on my macbook air too .. thanks for making this game, it's got a unique quality, I can't wait to see a multiplayer version if its in the works .. anyway, fastest time for me is 22:50.09 .. looks like I need to practice some more to beat the 9 minutes. .. lucky no VR sickness.. I can play this for hours.

Great job on this! It's sleek and simple enough to get you addicted in the first sitting.

It's all Creative Commons music from a Swiss duo called Zeropage: http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/2986/zeropage

I downloaded this a while ago and have only just gotten around to playing it.

Thanks so much for a fantastic game. I haven't spent so long on any other demo, but I've just played through this solidly to the end. I wouldn't have thought something so abstract could be so compelling but I was gripped all the way through. Love the Gibson references too.

Skill level seems judged perfectly. On my first run I definitely spent too long tackling 'trivial' nodes, but being forced to tackle the admin servers on a fixed number of hacks made me improve my tactics.

Off on another run through now. Hopefully sub 60 mins this time.

EDIT: 27.07 on a second run. Much better!

I thought it would be fun to have a scoreboard so I started a thread here:

Feel free to post your best scores and I'll update the scoreboard.

I'm proud to announce the future of Ciess: Darknet!

It's like Ciess but bigger, deeper, and prettier. 😄
