I will be releasing an updated version (as well as a postmortem on this version) in a few weeks after the Jam ends. There is still a lot I want to continue to work on and improve (audio, interface, environment, enemy AI) but even still I am very proud of what I was able to accomplish on my own in such a short amount of time.

My biggest goals were to create a sense of scale and make the interaction between the Titan and the Monster fun and engaging. I think I got really close to achieving that, or at the very least laid the groundwork for something great.

But for right now here is the game in it’s current state, exactly how it was submitted. I hope you have fun playing it, and again congrats to everyone who finished the jam!

------------------------- ORIGINAL FIRST POST -------------------------

Pilot the TITAN DEFENDER and protect the City from a Horde of Giant Monsters!

Titan Defender is a Virtual Reality Arcade Game that places you inside the cockpit of a 200 foot tall fighting robot, tasked with stopping monsters that want to destroy every building in sight.

Right now I'm still working out the movement and controls so I'm not ready to share a demo just yet. I hope to have one up by Milestone 2.

But for right now I have some lovely programmer art!

As for my road map; this weekend I plan to finalize the player controls and movement. By Milestone 2 I want to have the basic enemy implemented so I can spend the final week on tweaking game play and creating better art.

Cheers to everyone who finished Milestone 1!

------------------------- ORIGINAL SECOND POST -------------------------

One extra teaser in animated GIF form.

*** FULL DISCLOSURE *** I added some motion blur to compensate for the framerate of the GIF ***

Nice, I like this idea. The punching animations are really impact-ful so far.
Viktor: Yes, he was wrong. But just as some things can be right and useless at the same time, can't something be wrong... and priceless?

Man I'm really glad to see someone tackling a Kaiju style game. This should be a ton of fun. Also great idea posting animated gifs. Love the punching animations.

Thank you guys for the kind words! It's finally time for an update!

Since the Jam started I've only had a few hours in the evenings to work on this. So right now I'm not as far as I would have liked. Luckily between now and the 25th I have a good deal more time.

What time I've had has been spent on the player controls. My biggest goal is to give the player the feeling of being inside a 200 foot tall robot, while also keeping the movement very smooth and agile.

The controls have also gotten a bit more complex. Originally I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, arrow keys to move, space bar to punch. My concern became that the fights would become too simple, with not enough variety or improvisation.

I think I've almost got the controls down, but now it's time to see how well they do in a fight.

This weekend I'm focusing on making the enemy (I probably only have time to make one Monster, though I plan to at least add different skins). Here is a WIP of the enemy model:

I also made this little guy for kicks:

As I have more time now I plan on updating this thread more, and a demo soonish. At the very least expect a video progress report of the enemy tomorrow night.

And again, congrats to everyone who made it to Milestone 2!

Here's a (VERY) early look at the enemy Monster in action.

There's no walk cycle at the moment, and I want the Monster's skin to be far less cartoony, but the art is all over the place at this point anyway.

For me the ebb and flow of the combat is a bit more chaotic than fun at this point. But once I squash some bugs and balance out the timing/rythm of the fights, I think it will turn out pretty neat.

I also posted this a day earlier than I thought I would! I'm going to try my best to update once a day from now on.

Time for sleep!
