[RELEASE] VR Apocalypse

Here is my VRJam Game. I was quite happy with the result. It certainly would not have been possible to do such a game in such a short amount of time ten years ago without today’s great tools.

There were a couple of great things about this project:
1. A short deadline of three weeks forced me to focus on getting immediate results.
2. Being judged on a game that only uses the Oculus Rift and the mouse/keyboard and/or an Xbox Controller forced me to innovate on the user interface. It is difficult to make an engaging VR game with no hand tracking.

Because of no hand tracking I decided to go with a heads-up display target. Originally I wanted to do a gun as well but decided to keep it simple with a single aiming interface. Guns are the obvious solution so I figured I would focus on something different.

UPDATE SEPT 2!
New version:
http://nextgeninteractions.com/Data/NextGenGames/VRApocalypse/VRJamGamePackage_2013.09.02a.zip

You can download and play the game here (original version):
https://s3.amazonaws.com/ovr_vrjam/appfiles/225-d1c38a09acc34845c6be3a127a5aacaf.zip

Note you will need a good machine with a good graphics card. If the framerate goes below 60 Hz at any time then choose a lower quality setting at startup.

Of course there were PLENTY of features and gameplay that I did not have time to implement but those will have to wait for the next release.

As always any feedback and suggestions are appreciated.

Interesting.

I do agree that it would have been impossible before to make 3D games like this in such a short time-frame.
