[Release] Gator Time - VR Jam Project

Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to share what I made for the VR Jam. This was super fun and a great experience! So here it is!

This is Gator Time!

I wanted to make a game that gives you the feeling of being inside a cartoon, so the graphics are a mix of 2d and 3d graphics.

You start off playing as Larry Gator, you are in the first person perspective

This makes things difficult though because being a gator you have a long mouth, which makes things tricky if the world in it happens to have platforms and obstacles in it

So you meet a strange fellow who tells you about another option

He tells you about third person cameras and how they can follow you around and beam what they see directly into your brain so you can see yourself in the third person perspective
and he gives you his extra one, so you try it on!

You try it more and go on a little adventure

The story goes on and you eventually end up going on an adventure to collect pies

Watch out for obstacles!

And monsters!!!

Now with your new third person camera life is much easier
You eventually end up climbing really really high...(this part is super fun!)

Mixing the 2d and 3d worlds with the Oculus is super fun!

Some notes on the game
    * Everything in this was made by myself, I did the graphics, programming, music, voices, and all that stuff. So you might find a random bug here and there. The only thing I didn't make was the Tuscany Skybox prefab
    * If for some reason you get stuck press the home key and that should reset the level.
    * If you want to skip the whole story part and get right to collecting pies you can do that in the options section
    * Make sure you increase pizza levels in the options too
    * The menus are being a little weird I need to fix them for sure(as well as other things I'll constantly be tweaking)
    * This will work right out of the box with a gamepad too (it's really fun to play with that)

Here is the original video I made for the second milestone too

And here is a download to the game! I made a little update to it this morning so it's slightly different than what I submitted to the jam yesterday.

I hope you enjoy the game! Thanks so much for checking it out!

Glad it wasn't just me struggling with the control method.

Really Looking forward to this getting the controller update, I absolutely loved the feel of the world, made me feel like i was in southpark.

Thanks so much for checking it out I should have an update on the game with updated controls soon too.

I was just thinking about how amazing it is these new type of games we can make with the Oculus. When you said it made you feel like you are "in southpark" I thought about how neat it is that people are really entering the worlds we are all creating and experiencing them in ways that never existed!

Things that might not have been as interesting in normal games are incredibly interesting (for example I can just walk around different rift worlds and enjoy looking at things) and it's because we are "inside" the worlds we are creating for each other.

It might sound corny, but it's super inspirational and really an honor to think anyone is playing in the world I made. Also to be compared to Southpark is an extra compliment (I love that show)

It's so cool to see what everyone else has made too, it's like I'm stepping into the developers mind and experiencing their world in the way they want me to experience it.

It's so exciting to be doing this stuff!

Yeah!!!

Just gave this a try and I think I've spent more time on it than any other game/demo/show

It really works well graphically and the music is superb. No issues with it at all. Voices worked well too with the game.

One thing that would be nice is the lips to move similar to whats being said, but that's a minor thing and might actually be some of the charm 🙂

Really enjoyed it and will play again.

Love the music and feel/atmosphere of the game, had some problems getting past that second bird once you go 2D. 😛

3rd person camera could be a little further away from the character to give you more of an overview.
The red spiky things were kind of annoying, especially since there wasn't a checkpoint behind em.

The game can be pretty sadistic at times, like when I managed to fall down from here and touched a flag right at the beginning by mistake: http://abload.de/img/gatortimeoculus2013-0ifsa6.png

I pushed on to the "To be continued..." screen and managed to gather all but one pie though: http://abload.de/img/gatortimeoculus2013-02rsyg.png

Also definitely needs Controller support.
