Also here is a non-rift web build for those of you who don't have access to a rift. The formatting might be a bit off, but the game should run alright.

Cool! I really, really like the artstyle. I love the moon and those trees and the buildings. Scale is perfect. The chat interface is too close, I can't read it with my both eyes open. And no matter if I play with 1280x800 and fastest settings or 1920x1080 and good settings I get many fps drops. It might drop to 20-40 when you are walking forwards or look at some direction and it's pretty bad.
Otherwise a very nice game.

Thanks for playing! Yeah, I didn't end up doing much optimization, which is unfortunate in retrospect. Also I made a really bad call on the GUI for the chat early on in dev and the end result suffers because of it. It's definitely the first thing I want to improve when I get back to working on the game.

Pretty cool game. 🙂 The atmosphere is awesome, very chilling. Love the rain and the moon and the general aesthetic.
I honestly had no idea what to expect so the first time I saw an NPC (the smoker by the road asking for a light), I was freaking out thinking it was an alien that was going to kill me. Retro graphics FTW. 😄
In any case, I got stuck after a while.
I probably found 6 or 7 or 8 NPCs but wasn't sure how to advance things from there. I thought about quitting and restarting with Chapter 2+ but decided I'd ask here to see if I was missing something?

And as Ananas mentioned, the chat bubbles are hard to read, but I was able to focus on them if I stare off into the distance though so I'm guessing they're drawn at infinite distance. Really interesting how the brain wants the chat bubble to be close when it's drawn on top of everything!

Performance was very playable on my machine (newish PC w/ GTX680), but I did feel the framerate drops here and there. I imagine you'd benefit from occlusion culling or maybe even the "InstantOC" asset with all the structures that are out of visible range.

Anyway, so far so good, really interested to play more of this. 🙂

Thanks!
Each chapter has a unique area on the map with a unique npc in the centre. Talking to that npc will end the chapter. You should know them when you see them! If you want to find them quickly follow the edge of the map as they usually spawn there.

Only tried it briefly.

Got really laggy at times (20-30 FPS) when I was looking in certain directions, most of the times it stays at stable 60FPS though on my 770GTX.

Not sure what to do, picked Chapter 1 and proceeded along till I got to a robed figure with a bunch of dialogue, the dialogue PopUp wasn't aligned correctly for both eyes. I had to close one eye to be able to read.
