Samsung Galaxy S6

Hi,

I am just about buying the equipment for the jam, but it's a lot of money (I don't have a Note 4 yet). And what is really bugging me, is that the successor of the GearVR for the Samsung Galaxy S6 is already announced.

I thought it might be better to buy more recent equipment. I just checked Amazon, and the Release Date for the Galaxy S6 is set to the 10th April here in Germany. I cannot find any dates for the corresponding GearVR though.

Do you think it is possible that the GearVR for the Galaxy S6 will be released in time?

Thanks!

Nils

It's not a successor to the GearVR, it's a modified version for the S range of phones with added USB socket. And since the Note 4 and S6 are very similar in specs, whoever programmes for one can surely get it working for the other.
The Note 4 is an awesome phone (imo better with sd card slot and removable battery and bigger screen).

It took several months till the Gear VR was released and more so in other countries than USA, not sure how that would translate to the S6 Gear VR, could be released alongside with the S6 or also take several months.

When you have a dk2 you could develop the app/game on it now and other people with a Gear VR could test it for you and buy the S6/Gear VR when it comes out. But the app should run on a Note 4/Gear VR anyway and should not be optimized for the S6.

I believe you should be targeting the Note 4 for the competition. Thanks.

I have a software-related question.
Which of KitKat and Lolipop is the OS that a judge tries?
I am in doubt whether to update.

If you are an Exynos Note 4 user update to Lollipop, if you are a Snapdragon Note 4 user, don't (just yet).

The SDK should support both KitKat and Lollipop. Honestly, KitKat is a little more solid, but both should work. What I have heard is that Lollipop can have slightly reduced performance (in some cases), which could be an issue if your game was already resource constrained. However, I would not say it's so bad that you can't get it to work.
