Original message and screenshots:

Hey everyone,

So I've been working the past days in my entry for the VRJam, and I figured I could share some of the progress with you.

Game description:

Dreadhalls is a scary / horror dungeon crawler, inspired both by the roguelike genre and the dungeon crawlers of the good old days (Eye of the Beholder et al). You wake up in a scarcely lit dungeon, without any weapons, and your objective is to escape from it. That would be easy if not for the things that go bump in the dark, of course 😉

As I said, you have no weapons, so the gameplay involves stealthly exploring the dungeon and finding the exit while avoiding being seen by the creatures in it.

Since I haven't much time for making different levels and whatnot, I've opted for coding a procedural level generator, in the hopes that it can give the game more replayability.

Hope you'll like it!

Game crashes for me when trying to run in DirectToRift mode... 1.3 BETA...

Have you right clicked the directtorift exe and selected "Run as Admin"? This worked for me in the new version. Also apparently the new oculus runtime needs Windows Aero turned on.

Amazing news. Tonight I took my PC to a friends house to demo the Rift to their friends and family for Christmas. In the down time between demos, I decided to load up Dreadhalls on a whim, and found that it was running flawlessly, at 75Hz with low persistence and everything. The only things that I've changed since last testing were installing 4.4 Runtime, and updating my Nvidia drivers to 344.60.

My specs are as follows:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
16GB DDR3 1866
AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz
ASUS GTX 770 2GB
ASUS Sabertooth r2.0 motherboard.

Hi

How did you get this result ? I never have been able to make it run in direct mode. It automatically crashes.

In extended mode the game (latest build with 0.44 runtime) suffers from a horrible judder

thanks

Hi again

After upgrading the nvidia divers and using the 0.44 oculus runtine the judder is GONE !

However it still crashes in direct mode so we use the extended mode instead. Too bad the other users can't watch the demo while the main player is frightenned !

The only way I was able to get no judder was to turn extended mode off. It would still drop in fps on rare occasion, however.

Just for reference. In my case I had to use direct2rift exe with -force-d3d11 (regular exe would still give me black screen).

I'm getting lots of stutter, might be something with refresh rate capped at 60hz, who knows.

I recently finished main development on the full version of Dreadhalls for Gear VR (you can find more info on that here), and that just freed enough time to put some work on the promised update for the old Dreadhalls demo on DK2.

Get the 1.4 version here

This update includes:

    - Integration with the latest PC SDK (0.4.4)
    - Support for Direct To Rift mode
    - Mac version is also available (though untested, let's hope Unity knows what it's doing)
    - Small very tiny fixes

Hopefully, this will solve the issues some of you had been experiencing with the game. It works perfectly fine for me, but I still find the SDK a bit brittler than what I'd like, so your mileage may vary.

This is a technical update, so there are no new gameplay features. If the game already worked fine for you, you aren't missing anything if you don't download this.

Thanks for your patience!
