A bit late with this WIP but thought I'd share what were working on.
Synopsis: You play as Dr S Becket in charge of the Q.U.E.S.T (Quantum Energy Space Telescope) system which is currently orbiting earth. In 2015 Dr Becket's team re-analysed the WOW! signal discovered in 1977 and uncovered new data that turned out to be a schematic. A schematic for a quantum telescope.
The telescope took 5 years to build and launch, it is now 2020. When the telescope was switched on for the first time the otherwise silent, dark sky was lit up with signals from all over the universe. You are tasked with studying these signals and publishing your results to an eager world and find why and whom sent us that signal.
Team: Matt Ratcliffe - Developer / Concept Art / Game Design. Josh Griffin - 3D / Game Design. Karl Maddix - 3D / Game Design. Ben Brannan - Sound & music.
The idea of the game is to investigate signals across the universe, send these discoveries to Earth. All the worlds Governments have invested in the Quest project so in order to keep the funding flowing in you need to keep finding new discoveries. There is a wider story arc that will sit across the whole game that slowly unfolds as you go.
For the prototype I'm hopefully going to get one star system working so we can test the core mechanics, I have been only coding for 18 months in c# so it's both exciting and terrifying to get a game working in this time frame! I have the general game states down and you can zoom all the way into a star system. Now onto the scanning mechanic which I will post here later.
After quite a few iterations on the frequency scanning I am now pretty happy with the way it's turning out. You need to look around for potential signals and then once zoomed in you start tuning (via the touchpad) to clean the signal in order to be able to access the data. We want to design it so you really need to listen closely in order to get it spot on.
Now this is in, I should be able to start fleshing out this system much quicker.
