about the judging process

so, I played through all games that are playable on my ollipop note and I am beginning to questing the review process. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of really great games, but there are at least the same number of bad games, so buggy or loveless done that it would be a shame if they would be under the first 20% I understand that the judges doesn't want to install every single app, but I think they should at least make a quick check if the game really holds what they promise in the description/video etc.

I assume that the people doing the first round check will play all games selected to the final. If a game does not hold up to the description and video a new game is probably selected to replace it.

OK giving it a second thought, there is a great chance that low quality entries have low quality marketing assets also. So maybe the chance they'll get under the first 20% is pretty low. Unless they're good at faking, but I didn't check them so I don't know.

I've seen some very good CP pages with no working app or a google cardboard app.
Those are easy to spot on the first pass and will probably be caught before reaching the judges.

Yeah it is frustrating when you see a game that looks good, but install it and it turns out to be a cardboard app...how they even think they could possibly win when it doesn't even run on the GearVR is a very strange!

I noticed this aswell. Some entries look really good from pics and videos which they probably took from the PC version but when i try them on Gear VR they often have severe performance issues or bugs so that they are no fun to play at all.

How did the judges find the winners in the 2013 Jam?

Well the Google cardboard app shows all these amazing visuals. Then at the end of their description it says in the apk demo they provide you can't even walk around, your stuck inside a stadium.

As for me I'm yet to download Google Cardboard. Seriously who has the time to waste time on Google Cardboard when this is a Gear VR jam.

Oh another thing.. Here are some rules..

Entrant may not use Sponsor’s OCULUS trademark or its logo in any way that creates a likelihood of confusion as to source or sponsorship, including, without limitation, implying an affiliation or association between Entrant and Sponsor that could potentially confuse a user regarding whether the Entrant Content originates from or was created by Sponsor

Hopefully everyone remembered to change their game/experience icons?

I would say that on third of the entries i tried so far has the Oculus icon, 1/4'th are called Oculus sample and a few has the Unity default icon - and these are some of the best applications (House of languages, The night cafe). My guess is that these entries will not be disqualified (since they are excellent, and it's an easy mistake to make while building the app i a rush. 😃

I also found it very strange that The Night Cafe had the default Unity icon considering how much work must have gone into the art creation. Although I doubt it will be disqualified for that purpose, it is probably included as a legal requirement.
