Any word about HEVC support for Link/AirLink on the Quest 2 coming? Well
known fact AMD gpus have horrible h264 encoding and their HEVC encoding
is actually spectacular. New cards from Nvidia and AMD can handle it
just fine and so can the Q2 ( ReLive...
I understand that AirLink had a 100mpbs bit rate max on AMD GPUs because
ReLive only supported 100mpbs max BUT ReLive currently supports up to
170mpbs bit rate now yet AirLink is still locked to 100mpbs max. Any
word on upping the max bit rate on AMD...
AirLink is an experimental feature, why exactly should they advertise
something about it on the box when it's not even a 100% fleshed feature
and did not exist on device launch
Don't expect it to ever be acceptable for games, you're running a
virtual desktop on top of a virtual machine and an M1 ultra or whatever
have you isn't going to take extremely sub par on basic apps to
acceptable for games. even the guy working on it...
Encode Resolution Width is automatic based on your resolution scale
factor since v23, 3664 is 1:1 anyways and going above that provides
little benefit in clarity and just produces more performance with zero
gain
Besides that, since v23 encode resolution width has been set
automatically based on your set resolution and 3664 is the 1:1 while
anything above has little effect
