I was going to say, this sounds to me like Time Warp + low framerate.
The further the framerate is from 60, the easier it will be to catch the
black bar at the edge of the rendered frame.
Could you grab the log off the device? adb logcat -c will clear it, then
try to deploy VRVideo, then use adb logcat -d to get the log. All these
commands are available in Eclipse ADT too, though I'm not sure where.
