Clarification on APK size limits for VR application submission
Hi, We are in the process of developing a VR app, primarily a 360-degree stereo video with a user interface for navigation and interaction. We have reviewed the application packaging requirements and noted the stipulation under VRC.Quest.Packaging, which states that "APK files must be less than 1 GB in size, but can be accompanied by multiple expansion files up to 4 GB each." Given the nature of our application, the original file size is approximately 25 GB. Even with compression techniques, we could reduce it to around 15 GB, but this still significantly exceeds the size limits outlined. We have observed that several VR games available on the store are approximately 7 GB in size. We would like to inquire whether the size limit of 1 GB for APK files and 4 GB for expansion files is a strict requirement or if there are exceptions for certain types of content such as VR movies. Additionally, are there alternative methods or recommendations for applications like ours that inherently require larger file sizes due to high-quality video content? We would greatly appreciate any guidance on how best to proceed with our app submission to ensure compliance with the store’s requirements while maintaining the quality of our VR experience. Thank you!1KViews0likes0CommentsWhat are your future Plans for 360 Videographers
Just curious what your future plans are for 360 Video Developers like me. I have hundreds of thousands of watch time on your platform, but you keep expecting content for free. Pico pays me for content, YouTube pays me for content, but I am thousands of dollars in the hole with you from ads, Oculus Launch, and other issues. Are you ever going to value us as creators and help us like Pico or YouTube? Your response would be greatly appreciated so I can know if I will continue to upload to your platform and what I will tell other 360 developers, or if I will delete my channel from your platform. I have a number of 360 videos (4k, HEVC, ProRes) on Oculus Video and YouTube. I'd like to create a container app on the Oculus Go to house them all. Do I have to create it from scratch or can I use an outside service like Unity to create it and submit to Oculus? Thanks!859Views0likes3CommentsWhat are the optimal settings for 360 video on the GO?
Hi all, I am trying to find the optimal encoding settings for 360 videos on the Oculus GO. The raw footage is 60fps (technically 59.97fps) at 8k. I'd like to play it in the HMD at the HIGHEST resolution and frame rate possible. My current tests and results. NOTE: This video contains lots of movement! H.264 4096x2048 at 59.97 at 60mbps = Dropping frames and artifacting H.264 4096x2048 at 59.97 at 40mbps = Dropping frames and artifacting H.264 4096x2048 at 29.97 at 40mbps = Best results, but we are still getting a lot of artifacting. H.264 4096x2048 at 29.97 at 60mbps = No real difference to the above H.264 4096x2048 at 29.97 at 25mbps = Artifacting is worse. Any ideas?1.2KViews0likes2CommentsSubtitles for 360 video
Apologize in advance for choosing the wrong category. I am looking for a way to implement subtitles in 360 video, so they'll follow the viewer as they look around. Does anyone know what applications or software I can use to do this? It might be known as headtracking the subtitles or 'static lock'-subtitles. I am working on the 360 video primarily in Premiere Pro, and I am certain there's no way of implementing 'static lock'-subtitles in Premiere. Hope you can help me out.492Views0likes0CommentsWhat Type of App do I Need?
I currently have a few 360 videos on Oculus video and would like to consolidate them all into one app for simplicity and easier search ability. I'm not sure if the app would be on Oculus video or be a separate stand-alone app on the Oculus home page but what kind of app is that called and is it relatively easy to create? Does anyone at Oculus have any suggestions on who I can work with? Thanks!456Views0likes0CommentsIn-app ads for monetization?
Have you guys thought about monetizing your free apps using ads? I feel like I should be seeing more ads in free Oculus Go apps without in-app purchases. Apparently there are a few companies that do that, including OmniVirt and Adverty. It's all based on Unity SDKs so it's really easy. How do you guys feel about this stuff?681Views0likes0CommentsHowTo: Viewing 360° Video in Real-Time from RICOH THETA camera with Oculus Go Browser

Hi - new to VR so I have a couple basic questions. I am an artist based in Minneapolis, working with another artist on a research grant. We are interested in using VR as a part of a gallery installation and are wondering if it will be right for us. We have been looking into creating 360 video to be viewed with Oculus Go. First, if we submit the video for processing with Oculus Video, will it be available for viewing with Oculus Go? Or do we have to develop an independent app? Second, we are also concerned about licensing, does anyone have any information on this concern? Thank you in advance473Views0likes0Comments
