These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of November 30th, 2021. Casting with Mobile Mixed Reality Camera We’re introducing a new experimental feature that provides a window into your VR experience by showing your real self interacting with the VR app you’re in using the Oculus mobile app. Mobile mixed reality camera is intended to be a two-person capture experience. Please note that this is an experimental feature and is currently available only on iOS devices starting with the iPhone XS or later. Please ensure that you have the latest version of the Oculus Companion App (v139). For details on how to use mobile mixed reality camera and to see the supported apps, please visit our support site. Cloud Backup We’re introducing a new way to backup your app data with Oculus Cloud Backup. When Cloud Backup is enabled, Oculus backs up your device’s app data for supported apps, like game progress or settings, to the cloud. This lets you easily pick up where you left off in a game if you re-install an app, reset your device, or set up a new device. To keep your Cloud Backup data safe, your app data is encrypted on our servers. Cloud Backup is turned on by default but you can turn it off anytime in your Settings. Multiple Accounts on Quest We are moving the option to have multiple accounts on your Quest headset from experimental to general availability. Now everyone has the option to support multiple accounts on a single headset. Users who enable multiple accounts on Quest will be able to share the majority of their apps with secondary users on the headset. Primary users will only be able to share apps on one device. Secondary users will be able to purchase DLC for shared apps through the Oculus Store, but will not be able to make in-app purchases for shared apps. Phone Notification Deep Links to Browser We’re piloting a new feature that lets you interact with phone notifications without leaving VR. Now, you can make audio calls while in VR to your friends on any Messenger-enabled platform—wherever they may be. No more taking off your headset to communicate and coordinate. Note: We’ll be rolling this feature out to users gradually over the coming weeks. Learn more about using Messenger in VR. Controller Settings We’ve added the ability to adjust the ‘Up’ angle of the thumbstick, allowing you to adjust the forward direction of the thumbstick You can enable this feature from the Experiments section of the Settings panel in VR. We’ve improved notifications when you enter a low-light situation and are at risk of losing tracking. Horizon Home We’re introducing a new personal workspace environment in Horizon Home today, so you can trade out that snowy mountain lodge for something a bit more professional if you’re sitting down to get some work done. 2D Apps for Multitasking We’re introducing 2D apps to the Oculus Store. These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of September 13th, 2021. Guardian History If your headset is experiencing tracking issues, you can now use Clear Guardian history to delete Guardian maps and tracking data in addition to boundary data from your Quest or Quest 2 headset. Please note that this will also delete the Guardian tracking data for any secondary users if you have multiple accounts saved on your headset. You can clear your Guardian history from the Guardian settings panel in VR. Safe Browsing We’ve implemented an additional layer of security in Oculus Browser to protect you from websites that may be potentially harmful (malware, phishing etc.). If you navigate to a potentially harmful site, you’ll be redirected to a separate page with info on why the site may be unsafe and recommendations for how to proceed. This feature is powered by Google Safe Browsing. Link and Air Link Visual Improvements Next time you use Link or Air Link with your headset, you may notice improved image quality and text clarity thanks to Link Sharpening. Link Sharpening makes images crisper, fine details clearer, and text more clear and easy to read. Improved Oculus Touch Controller Sleep Management We’re updating the Oculus Touch Controller firmware to make controllers go to sleep faster, which improves the standby battery life. Please note that this update applies only to the original Quest to match the controller behavior on Quest 2. Improved Multitasking We’re bringing some of the previously experimental multitasking features to everyone. These include showing up to three currently running 2D apps in the Universal Menu, a bar beneath each window for accessing common controls, and the ability to drag and drop Browser tabs and windows. These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of July 20, 2021. Invite to Game We’ve created multiplayer APIs for developers to use with their apps. For any app that opts into this feature, you’ll be able to invite friends or people you’ve recently played with to your game sessions directly from the Quest Universal menu. You will be notified when your friend takes action based on your invite. When you’re invited to join someone through this method, you’ll receive a notification with info about who sent the invite and what app you’re being invited to. You can now view and manage the group of people you’re playing together with right from the Universal menu without leaving the app or experience you’re currently in. Invite Link We want to make it easier to get your friends into VR with you. One way we’re doing this is by allowing you to create an invitation link which will take anyone who uses it to the same location in VR. The link is created and shared using the Oculus Mobile App. You can then use that invite link to text or post to your friends and communities. Air Link Improved the dynamic bitrate to reduce the occurrence of stalls and high latency, while also improving visual quality. Added the ability to access the Oculus menu (press Oculus button) during a connection timeout (3 dots screen). Identified and fixed a bug that caused Air Link to crash. Fixed an issue where some AMD drivers could crash when running Link/Air Link. Messenger You can now send Reactions to messages in VR similar to how you would on mobile. You can now see the status of the messages that you send (Send receipts), as well as how much of the conversation other participants have read (Read receipts.) USB-C Audio You can now use USB-C headphones with your Quest 2. For the list of supported USB-C headphones and adapters, see our support article here. If both 3.5mm and USB-C headphones are plugged in, then the audio will play on the 3.5mm headphones. If your 3.5mm or USB-C headphones have mics, they will be disabled as headphone mics are not supported on either the 3.5mm or USB-C ports. Universal Menu We’ve made the Library, Settings, Notifications, and other menus larger for improved ease of use. Security Settings We’ve created a dedicated security settings page in headset where you can set/reset your unlock pattern and access other security settings. Save your passwords on Oculus Browser You can safely save and autofill your passwords on Browser. Now you’ll only have to type your password once before letting Browser auto-fill your password. And you can seal it behind your unlock pattern for added security. Fixes This update includes a security fix to prevent third-party apps running in the background of people’s Quest devices from accessing their motion data, including controller and headset movement. Apps that run in the foreground-- meaning apps you actively play and engage with when using your headset -- are not affected by this fix and may collect real-time information about the current position of your headset and controllers to translate your movements into the virtual world; for more, see our support article privacy support article. Fixed an issue with wireless that caused degraded WiFi performance.14KViews6likes28Comments
