An Open Letter to Meta: Keep Horizon Worlds Accessible
Horizon Worlds has always been special because anyone could put on a headset and start creating—no coding degree required. Codeblocks made that possible, giving creators of all skill levels the power to build without overwhelming barriers. Now, with the shift to an industry-standard desktop editor and a programming language that takes months or years to learn, Meta is moving away from what made Horizon truly unique. Advanced tools are great, but not if they push out the very people who made this platform thrive. Please don’t turn Horizon Worlds into just another complex game engine and if you do please remember the little guys.—keep it accessible, intuitive, and open to all.964Views41likes1CommentIt’s the Dawn of a new forum?
Hey all! Learning this new way to learn, chat, and collaborate. My creation story is joining Horizon Worlds late 2021 and going on so many magical virtual adventure world hops and meeting so many amazing creators that took me into build mode in the headset and shared countless hours creating and collaborating together. And of course so many wonderful hours hanging out and having great conversations with cool people on places like, a moving train, the moon, the top of a giant mushroom, and many many other wonderful experiences. Making cool stuff together and testing it was such a lightning in a bottle, full brain creativity magic. Not as excited about the dystopian feeling of solo computer creation, but hoping to learn some new ways to create as we transition to this new forum. 💖128Views13likes0CommentsBuilding Musical Instruments in Horizon Worlds
This is what I have been doing for most of my 3 years in Horizon Worlds. I am looking for people to collaborate with who are “Partners” (maybe not in this group, I am not sure) to build out a School (already roughly started and published) as well as Certification for those learning Basic and Intermediate music for VR and Mobile Web. There is a long list of people who have helped me to get to this stage but almost all of them are now working for Meta, so I am looking for some fresh talent for programming (typescript and codeblocks) as well as Blender and Unity design. * I also want to post a similar message in “What I am Building” section with pictures. Please let me know if there is a rule against posting similar if in two different places as I don’t want to be “That Guy”.151Views6likes0CommentsCodeblocks Script Disappearing – Bug or Issue?
Lately, I’ve been experiencing a frustrating issue in Horizon Worlds when scripting with codeblocks. Very often, my entire script suddenly disappears, and even when I try to undo, it doesn’t come back. This forces me to redo everything from scratch. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is this a known bug, or is there a way to prevent it from happening? Thanks in advance for any insights!Solved1.7KViews4likes10CommentsCreating On The Headset
I want to start with a bit about myself, I've always loved video games and have always wanted to get involved in making that experience. As a kid I never was able to get into computers and as an adult never thought I would've got any opportunity to work on games because of that. I got the Oculus in 2023 for myself for Christmas, and shortly after found Horizons. At first, I explored the many amazing worlds and spent time socializing with friends. Then I found out that almost everything I saw was built on the Headset, I went to creations started my first world "The Deep Oasis". Boy, was I hooked! Months of building with primitive led me into learning Codeblock Scripting to make my worlds come to life. The months of Codeblock Scripting led me to building my very first game and many more after. After Building all these worlds on the headset and learning how to put it all together gave me the knowledge and confidence to purchase a computer and tackle TypeScript, Blender, Unity and more in order to fulfill that childhood dream. All this would've have never happened if I wasn't able to build and learn on the headset. I would've never made the many worlds, assets and art without the Horizons creation tool on the headset. It's the perfect kinetic learning tool and gives beginners insight into how computers operate. It's given myself along with many other creators a foot in the door to creating what's in our imagination, and I hope to see it get the love it deserves. We are making a team based game, Your team cannot go to other team's area. So i wanted a collider which gets enabled locally depending your team name. But if i enable a collider locally, all players in the worlds can collide with it.Solved65Views1like2CommentsDiscrepancies Tutorials and Tutorial Worlds?
Hi, I am trying to do the sim tycoon tutorial, accompanied with the world that Meta has set up for it (Sim Tycoon Template). However, there seem to be fundamental discrepancies between the content that the tutorial wants to guide through and the actual content in the world. For example (see screenshot showing both a section from the tutorial and the actual script), the tutorial talks about changing variables in the pickaxe "entity" (likely meaning script?) such as miningPower or durability. No such variables exist in the script, the screenshot shows other ones. Similar discrepancies are with the backpack section, maybe more. Am I missing something, or perhaps the tutorial was written for a (now outdated) different template version? I'd be happy for any sanity check on whether I am missing something or the tutorial is bunk. Thank you so much!74Views1like1CommentSeeking Help Writing a Codeblock Script
Good Morning All Would anyone be interested in helping me write a script for one of the worlds I’m looking to get released by Halloween? It would be in codeblocks because I do not know typescript and don’t have time to learn it by next month. To be honest - I don’t have anything monetary to offer. I build for passion and experience and seek no reward from it other than making sure my potential players enjoy themselves. Even though I do not have anything monetary to offer, I’d be happy to provide whatever help I can offer in return such as building, ideas, etc…30Views1like0CommentsCodeblock Script Help - Lists
I have a codeblock script question for anyone who could provide insight… I’m working on a type of scavenger hunt world and I want it to be replayable so I want the players to have a different list of objects they need to hunt down each time they play. What would be the best way to accomplish this? Items spawning in according to what’s on the lists? The game will be for 6 players so each player has their own list that is different from the other players.66Views1like2CommentsHow to Start Developing on Meta Platforms (Horizon)?
Hi everyone, I’m new to development on Meta platforms and I’d like to know the best way to get started with Horizon world. What’s the right entry point for start development on Meta? Which docs or resources should I follow first? Are there any recommended learning paths or steps to avoid wasting time on unnecessary trial and error? I’d love to hear from experienced developers who have already gone through this stage, so I can start off on the right track and build a strong foundation from the beginning. Thanks in advance to anyone who shares their experience or points me in the right direction141Views1like2Comments
