Quest 3 Controller Tracking Issues in fast paced games
Hi, I’ve been experiencing loss of tracking with my Quest 3 controllers which is problem that didn’t occur so often when I had the Quest 2. The controllers have not been damaged in anyway as they’re brand new. In attempt to resolve this, I’ve tried every solution I could find. Resetting boundaries and space unpairing and re-pairing the controllers restarting the headset new batteries revaluation of the environment around me (lighting conditions, etc…) check for any software updates set controller tracking frequency to 60Hz disabling space setup disabling hand tracking factory reset of the headset All these have been checked and attempted and still see no results that fix the issue. It’s frustrating because I’ve had no problem with this when I had the Quest 2 and performed better on Beat Saber. Whereas, because of this issue, my performance has significantly worsened. I read a forum from two years ago that this issue was resolved, however, this is something that is still occurring.12Views0likes0CommentsOculus Rift S Headset stays black after years of it working
My headset randomly stopped working one day and I've tried everything to get it to work. I've reinstalled the software, I've updated my graphics drivers, I've plugged it into different ports, and still nothing. I tried asking for help on the support page but for some reason, my serial number for my product isn't recognized. Can someone help me please?602Views0likes18CommentsQuest 3 No Longer Charging / Holding Charge
My Quest 3 that I got in early December spontaneously stopped receiving or holding a charge to its battery. I use BoboVR accessories and have two spare batteries, the batteries do not charge the headset any more. Plugging in the headset onto its charger that it came with doesn’t charge it. I have checked that the charging cable is functional, as is the adapter it came with - still no luck. I have tried factory resetting the headset, but it has since died and I cannot get the menu to pop up. Looking in the Meta Horizon App hasn’t aided me either. Was there a bad update that rolled out and hurt the battery? The primary thing I use it for is VRChat. I kept out unplugged when not in use or when it was on low battery, but otherwise primarily used the BoboVR batteries to extend uptime as instructed, for roughly 3-6 hour intervals. I still have the warranty. Should I send it in to be fixed?8Views0likes1CommentHeadset caught on fire while charging

update May 30, 2024: There have been no updates/improvements to controller tracking since Meta Support marked this as solved! Community consensus seems to be that this issue stems from hardware/software limitations with the controllers, specifically the method of tracking (as a software developer working specifically in the machine learning and computer vision space, I agree that this technology is not particularly robust enough to handle some types of movement). If you play games that require fast hand movements and/or dynamic hand positioning, I would recommend not buying a Quest 3, unfortunately. I've heard some anecdotes regarding improved tracking with the Quest Pro controllers, but the improvements are marginal at best - not worth the additional ~$300 for minimal performance gains IMO. My personal recommendation is to stick to Quest 2. Not to detract from the various improvements that the Quest 3 has brought (e.g., color passthrough w/higher resolution, better hand tracking, higher overall hardware specs compared to Quest 2, etc.), but Quest 2 controller tracking is significantly better than the Quest 3's. Ideally, my hope is that Meta will push an update that allows for pairing Quest 2 controllers with the Quest 3, but as of right now, that's just a pipe dream as Meta has given no indication of making these headsets/controllers backwards compatible. While I'm (naively) hopeful that things will change, realistically speaking, I have 0 expectations and a lot of disappointment. tl;dr: I've had a Quest 2 for almost 3 years. I received my Quest 3 today and was very excited to use it. Controller tracking performance is much worse than the Quest 2, at least in the context of games where you swing your arms as fast as you can. This was not a problem for the Quest 2 (unless controllers were physically damaged, e.g., hitting a wall, dropping them, etc.). Don't buy if you play games like Gorilla Tag, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, or any of the other games mentioned throughout this thread!!! Question: Are there ways to modify the Quest 3's controller tracking such that fast hand movements won't be affected by the prediction-like behavior where the in-game hand moves farther than you swing? When I perform a baseball throwing movement with my hand/arm, the tracking will not keep up and it ends up losing my hand's position for a fraction of a second, causing my in-game hand to be positioned farther away than my hand actually is (this is not an issue with Quest 2 controller tracking). Details/Context: I primarily use VR for exercise, and I mostly play Gorilla Tag. Gorilla Tag is a game where you play as the upper half of a gorilla, using your arms as your means of locomotion. Basically, you use your arms as if they were your legs, and you can run, climb trees, wall-run, etc. It's an infection-based tagging game where you join a lobby of up to 9 other people, and the game will randomly select a player to be the first tagger. The tagger(s) will continue tagging until everyone in the lobby has been tagged (infection-style), and then a random player will be selected as first tagger; this pattern just continuously repeats. While the learning curve is pretty steep to play at a high level, there is a growing community of players who are very competitive (approx. 10-20k players based on the communities I participate in - Competitive Gorilla Tag on Discord and Gorilla Tag Competitive on Discord). As a prominent member of this community, people have been seeking my feedback on whether or not the Quest 3 is worth it. While I feel that a majority of the new features are amazing, I have had issues with the controller tracking. Gorilla Tag is an active game where you're constantly swinging your arms as fast as you can to travel around the map(s) to avoid being tagged. The primary player base for the game is Quest 2 users. Aside from physical damage, most players have not had any problems with controller tracking on the Quest 2, aside from when the controller goes out of the tracking range of the headset (as expected). However, the Quest 3 controllers lose tracking during medium-fast to fast hand movement (medium-fast: like playing catch with a friend; fast: throwing a baseball as hard as you can). The consequence of this in the context of Gorilla Tag is that your in-game arm extends to the game's max arm length frequently, causing your hand to collide with the wall/tree/ground and launch you away from the surface. This is a big issue for games/activities involving fast-paced hand movement as it's not nearly as reliable as the Quest 2 controller tracking performance.Solved181KViews49likes520CommentsQuest 3 Elite Strap Broke
Hello yall, My elite strap (without battery) headset just broke. To be precise the rubber headrest just popped off from the plastic on the left side. It was the attachment point between the adjustment wheel and the headrest I see a screw inside the plastic and in the rubber a golden nut and a mole for a attachment. I am just interested if someone had a similar case and how they fixed it. Would greatly appreciate it before i accidentally break the entire elite strap33Views0likes4CommentsMeta Quest 3 Black Screen After Logo and Firmware Arrow — Hundreds of Us Have This Problem
Many Meta Quest 3 owners are experiencing the same serious issue after what appears to be a faulty firmware update. The headset starts normally, shows the Meta logo, then displays the down-arrow firmware symbol as if it’s updating. After that, the screen goes completely black and never turns back on. This problem has affected hundreds of users across multiple platforms, including Meta’s own community forums, Reddit, and Discord groups. Everyone describes the same sequence: Meta logo, firmware arrow loading, then a permanent black screen. People have already tried every official fix that Meta recommends: Rebooting the headset. Performing a full hard reset using the power and volume buttons. Installing the manual firmware update through the Meta update tool on a computer. Even after completing all of these steps successfully, the headset remains unusable. The issue clearly points to a defective firmware update or a corrupted boot process caused by the update itself, not user error or damage. Some customers have received replacements, while others have been denied support because their device is out of warranty. That inconsistency is unacceptable. A firmware defect that originates from Meta should not depend on warranty status. This needs to be recognized as a widespread product issue. Meta should take responsibility, publicly acknowledge the problem, and provide free repairs or replacements to all affected customers. Everyone affected should post here and share: When the problem started and what update version it followed. Any videos or photos showing the black screen sequence. What Meta Support said or offered in response. If enough reports are collected, this could draw the attention of consumer protection agencies, the media, or legal firms willing to pursue a class action. The goal is not to complain, but to get a fair solution for everyone who has been left with a bricked headset due to a faulty update. This issue is not isolated. It’s widespread, and it needs to be addressed now.583Views3likes7CommentsI need to get my headset unlocked
So, my quest 3 is locked out, I don’t know the password and can’t access the headset settings. Another problem is that I don’t have cloud backup setup. I don’t want to do a factory reset because a lot of my important data is on there (such as money based in-game purchases and games that cost money) does anyone know a way to solve this problem without me losing my important data?Solved32Views0likes3CommentsPC FREEZES when plugging in CV1 USB
When I plug in my Rift CV1's USB cable into my motherboard the whole PC freezes and the only way to turn it off is via a forced shut down by holding the power button. If I leave it plugged in when starting, the PC freezes during or shortly after the Meta Horizon Link app starts. I've tried updating NVIDIA graphics drivers, updating/reinstalling Meta Horizon Link, updating motherboard drivers, disabling USB power saving on individual devices but nothing works. I've also tried both USB ports direct from the motherboard chipset and also ones that go through an internal controller first, with the same end result.35Views0likes2Comments
