Passthrough is annoying since the last update
Hi, There's going to be some ranting, I'm sorry, but I just can't keep seeing what my otherwise almost perfect flow of using Quest 3 went into with the last update. The last update made passthrough a really annoying experience. First of all, this flying popup saying "Wow, did you know that your EXPERIENCE is running in the background? Wow, you can come back to it by clicking here, not just by double taping the headset now! But you can't just close it, because we hate you!". Now some context: I'm using Quest 3 pretty much the whole day every day, I only put it off when I'm eating or when I go to shower or sleep. So obviously I spend quite some time in passthrough mode to make myself tee, fetch a snack etc. Now this flying popup is following my view, which is extremely annoying, but it also blocks the view, so it's even more annoying when you are doing something on the kitchen, look down only to see this stupid announcement to block things that I actually need to see. Who thought that's a good idea? Do they spend more than half an hour in a headset and use it for anything else other than "experiences"? Speaking of "experiences", I use Quest 3 not only for play, browsing and using my PC in general, but also for work. The apps I use like Virtual Desktop and Immersed have a passthrough mode, so they provide only what I need from them - screens. Now after the update this is this effect of some terrible purplish washed out color, that for some reason needs to wash out my passthrough when I'm launching the app to show me its ugliness, then to be washed out again into passthrough of the app. This transition is not only completely unnecessary, but also is annoying and esthetically unpleasant. I understand that the main audience is not people like me, but could you please at least give us an option to opt out from these things in "advanced options" somewhere maybe? For a power user it feels like a slap in the face and it's definitely a huge point for me to buy a different headset next time (and you probably know which one I'm waiting in 2026 now). To not make it completely dark and angry, I'd still like to thank the devs for what they've done so far, except for these changes. Quest 3 is still the best headset for the money with a huge gap from the competition and will still be better than the one coming out next year, simply because of passthrough. So it's especially important to at least keep it on the same high level as it was, and not ruin by these stupid (probably marketing) decisions on UI/UX.88Views2likes3Comments
