Quest 3: Problems with sweat
Your headset is also advertised for workouts, but unfortunately that's not possible because sweat always occurs during workouts and apparently the devices aren't sufficiently protected against it, despite completely drying them off with microfiber cloths after use and your silicone cover etc. It’s my 4th Quest 3 which dies after using it with ElevenTableTennis:-( I’m in a community with many players and a lot of them have the same problems and must replace their headsets regularly because of this issue… Most die with „tracking failure“ and nothing works. The display moves with head-movement and controller are vibrating every second but aren’t tracked as well… no head and no finger or controller tracking… There are also threads on Reddit… why don’t you seal the chips inside like it is done with smartphones??? As I said in chats before. You should invite me as your product-tester. When your devices lasts for me in the long run, then it's good😉18KViews12likes53CommentsFacts: ‘Supernatural’ = Vigorous Cardio, + New MR Mode
We’ve known for years that working out with Meta Quest is convenient, affordable, and—most of all—fun. And today, we’re adding “effective” to that list for Supernatural, thanks to a rigorous, first-of-its-kind research study conducted by the University of Victoria, Canada (UVic).2.5KViews1like4CommentsPlease bring back health connect or add fitbit
My wife and I use fit bits for daily activity and exercise and I was excited to add it to my quest 3 but found out the health connect app is no longer an option to sync. Please bring this back or integrate proper fitbit support like some of the fitness apps on quest do on their own. Would be great for beatsaber and more active games and environments and give a more complete overview of activity.510Views5likes0CommentsFeel the Real: ‘Supernatural’ Unveils New Campaign, ‘Unreal Fitness’

I decided to start a thread to discuss all forms of physical fitness and training for anyone else who engages in this activity on a regular basis. To give some context: Back in 2016 when the Rift CV1 was released, there was a lot of debate over the potential for VR to help people get involved in physical fitness. Since then, there has been at least one major article about someone who got in shape by going between VR Experiences like Beat Saber and Boxing sims. My stance back in 2016 and 2017 was that the idea of getting all sweaty in a VR HMD seemed rather absurd. I maintained the viewpoint that using a VR HMD can cause more harm than good. Examples include obstructing your vision so that you are unable to make sure that your body is maintaining good form during excessive movement. Another example is the added next strain caused by the weight of the HMD, as well as wrist strain caused by VR Hand Controllers. Especially something as bulky as Wands or Knuckles. However, in 2018 and the beginning of 2019, I found myself becoming something of a hypocrite. I was very much addicted to building up a sweat in Creed Boxing. And I started trying to reach the top ranks in certain fitness sims within the game. Fitness in VR started to really peak my interest. And I was planning on creating a VR Fitness thread one day, where I call myself out for being wrong, and exploring additional creative implementations of VR and Fitness. But then right around March/April of 2019, I found myself going to the gym more often. And I was also spending almost zero time doing anything in VR related to physical fitness. Any time I entered VR, it was either for an RPG or Action Shooter experience. But I wanted to either stand or sit without over-exerting myself. Yet my desire to continue pushing my body towards being stronger and faster didn't go away. So there I was... in the gym twice a week for a few months. And then it became 3 times a week. And now as I post this, I have spent the last 8 weeks going to the gym 4-5 times a week. I realize now that I have gone full circle. Getting a workout in VR was great for awhile, but all it ended up doing was making me want to get outside to run, jump, and swim. And then get inside a gym to exercise with others who are dedicated to fitness. I think VR served as a great catalyst to rekindle my desire to "get in shape." And so this thread is for anyone who may want to talk about fitness goals, strategies, meal plans, etc. All that being said, here is my overall approach: I had been out of the gym for a number of years. Family and career took over quite some time ago. At best, I might have tried to run my lazy ass around the block once or twice a month. I would attempt a pushup or a few squats on occasion. But never anything consistent. So when I decided to go back to the gym and start hitting it hard, I felt like I needed to re-educate myself. And I came across two rivaling schools of thought, both which I feel have pro's and con's that can serve me well. On one side, we have the "science" of fitness. Where we address things like: What are the most effective arm exercises? What's the best chest and legs exercise? How much time should you spend working out each day or week? How many reps should you do? How much time should you wait between reps and sets? What should you eat before the workout? What about after? How much sleep should you get? While there is a lot of value in answering these questions, the whole thing does start to get a bit tedious. And rather silly, if you ask me. So I didn't want to take the "science" of fitness to any extreme. I wanted it to serve me more as a guide; a basic blueprint. Because I know that there is the other side of the spectrum, where none of that shit really matters. Where it comes down to your own personal drive, pain tolerance, determination, and mental fortitude. Where it doesn't matter if you only got 4 hours sleep and missed your protein shake for the day; you still get your ass in the gym and perform your workout to the fullest extent. Lately, I spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos from two of my favorite channels. Each representing these opposing schools of thought. The first is, my favorite old school Wrestler, the Ultimate Warrior. RIP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezqGdDbKlj4 He started his own fitness school some years ago, and his videos about the power of the mind and human spirit are fun to watch. One particular video I enjoy is his quick rant on the concept of "over training." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LVMutFvkhw And on the other end of the spectrum resides my favorite online Fitness Trainer from Athlean-X. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqlJcJfKZJw I enjoy AX's videos to help ensure that I'm not doing certain exercises wrong or wasting time doing something "dumb." Like spending 1 hour on a treadmill when I can engage in a much more effective form of cardio. All that being said, if anyone has any interest in this subject then let me know!5.8KViews0likes21CommentsYUR - v16 Firmware Update - Announcement
Hey this is Dilan from YUR. For all our users that like YUR, we wanted to make a general announcement that the V16 firmware disabled the method we used to render the persistent overlay in our app, this was done due to security reasons outside of the scope of YUR. We have been receiving a lot of messages and reviews who are upset about this. However, the app still works. In addition, a lot of developers were coming to us asking if they can develop apps with this overlay functionality. During a time where people are stuck inside, using the Quest as a supplementary fitness device is a great value for a lot of people. A few key points to get across: 1. Persistent notifications and the overlay were a requested feature by developers and users. 2. We never used the method for anything beyond fitness metrics. 3. We respect the security and performance limits of the Quest and ToS. 4. We and several developers are looking for methods of legitimizing this type of application. Thank you Oculus and our users for your support.1.1KViews7likes1CommentBeat Devastation
Arrrghhhh so disappointed with the restriction of songs on Beat Saber... I briefly had access to more many more tunes that were amazing... I 'used' this platform to exercise (I am yoga and Pilates teacher, currently studying psychology) I like my form to be good slow and rhythmic... I don't go for the banging faster songs but now I have no choices left.... Super disappointing!! Particularly as I wanted to focus my MSc in Cyber Psychology research on this type of movement in VR. Feeling frustrated... after access to great songs to having nothing that works does not feel good at all :neutral:1.1KViews0likes5CommentsRunning a VR PE class at my High School. Need advice on handling!
I'm a comp sci teacher at an Austin high school. I'm working with the University of Texas doing research on the effect of VR for fitness as well as the soft skill such as collaboration and critical thinking that are built during physical education classes. In the area that I'll be using my 8 riftNtouch (and some other hmds) I'll need to setup and break down the headsets, cameras and controllers every day for the class. I"m working on proper handling and care of everything so the students can take care of some of the work. I'm already getting VR covers for a more hygienic and make all of the components easy to clean. Currently my plan includes how to wind the HMD cord properly and place it in the box with the connections secured away from the lenses. Same treatment for the cables on on the cameras . We're using the original riftNtouch box to store things. Then how to wipe everything down after each use. I mean, it is a PE class so we are expecting some sweat. We're using the cafeteria so we have a good bit of space but that also means I can't put any mounts up for cameras. So, if anyone has any good ideas how I can avoid issues and keep my riftNtouch in good shape, I'm all ears.1.9KViews0likes9Comments
