Petition to allow developers access to camera feed
I know that Meta says that for privacy reasons developers can't access the camera feed but without direct camera access it is almost impossible to develop a good mixed-reality app. If the developers are unable to see what the user is seeing how are we supposed to develop actual augmented reality content, having access to the camera feed would unlock many new kinds of applications that would help give a scope to the existence of the mixed reality headsets. I am creating this discussion for two reasons: 1) I would like to understand how many developers have the same problem 2) Find a solution to the privacy problem My proposed solution would be to require specific authorization from the user and to display some kind of signal (like the green dot that appears on Android) that the app has access to the camera while it is being used because this is both an issue for the user and the people around him it would probably be necessary to add an LED on the outside of the headset that blinks when the camera feed is being accessed (something like the meta ray ban smart glasses). I believe that camera feed access will be necessary sometime in the future of this technology (maybe when it will be a pair of smart glasses) and it would be cool to be able to develop apps for that vision. P.S. I know that there are other discussions about the same topic but I belive that we should all discuss in one to attract meta attention.2.9KViews15likes6CommentsAllow us to connect WhatsApp for Business with Rayban
Good morning fellas, I bought the new Meta Rayban yesterday and I find them much better than the old ones I only have one problem, from the settings you can connect a Whatsapp account for messages etc etc, the problem is that I use Whatsapp business and it is not possible to connect them to this app. The assistance confirmed it to me and told me to write a post here with a request to the developers so that they can make this whatsapp business also connectable. It would be enough to give the choice once you click on “connect” between one or the other whatsapp in my opinion. Does anyone have the same problem as me?6.5KViews13likes17CommentsQuest Pro BUG report: Remove Controllers not Tracking popups / add way to disable
The "Controllers are not tracking" popups are constantly showing on the Quest Pro, even if I am in Desktop mode looking at my windows screen, or hand tracking mode. there is no way to remove them in the settings. It says push volume up and down at same time, did not solve. Also when Hand Tracking in my apps, I see them popup a lot, you guys must of forgot something in your code before you shipped to disable these popups when using hand tracking or in desktop view mode. This is a bug. Please fix.3.9KViews10likes9CommentsDeveloper Mode Issues Update
Hello everyone, Thank you all for your reports and your patience on this issue! In regards to developers being unable to enable Developer Mode in the Oculus app, a new update has been pushed to fix the issue. Please update your Oculus app to the latest version (as of the date of this post) and try enabling Developer Mode once more. Update 11/8: The fix pushed to the latest App Update does not seem to have fixed the issue for all developers. At this time we are re-opening the issue and will update this post as well as this forum thread with any relevant details. In the meantime, many of our awesome developers have shared that verifying using a Credit Card allowed the Developer Mode option to appear. Update 11/15: We have received reports that this issue has been fixed for most developers experiencing this issue. Please log out and log back into your Oculus app and try enabling Developer Mode once more. If you still experience the same issue, please reach out to our team at https://developer.oculus.com/support (click "Contact Us") and we'll dive deeper.32KViews8likes53CommentsArc A770 is an "Unsupported GPU", the recent update prevents connecting with the PC.
I have an Arc A770 and the most recent Oculus software update has code that actively prevents connecting via link cable and air link because the GPU is "not supported" (it did before the update). My day job is a VR developer, my headset no longer connects to the PC, and I have several VR projects that are on indefinite hold because of this. This is a massive issue for me and anyone else (gamer or developer) who has an Arc GPU so I don't know why this was considered a good idea.4.1KViews8likes7CommentsDisable guardian at runtime in Mixed Reality Apps (Unity)
Hi! I'm in the process of creating a mixed reality app that integrates both passthrough functionality and the Scene API. Despite conducting a full room scan and navigating around, the guardian system continues to restrict the app. I'm searching for a way to programmatically deactivate the guardian system, either in Unreal or Unity. Considering that Meta's "First Encounter" demo doesn't encounter these boundary issues, I'm convinced there must be a way to resolve this. Thank u!7.1KViews7likes14CommentsTrouble with developer mode
I have had trouble turning developer mode on, on my Oculus quest 2. I have made an organization like 8 to be exact but it doesn't give me on option to turn on developer mode on the oculus app. After linking my oculus up, It just says get started but I've already made and organization and I'm signed in on my meta account we're I made the organization. this is we're I made an organization https://developer.oculus.com/manage/organizations/create/. If you have a solution please reply to this comment it would really help I've been working on this for 3hrs. I just want to be able to turn on developer mode on. MetaStoreHelp4.4KViews7likes9CommentsMeta Horizon Store developers won't engage with their customers (us developers)!
Hey guys, I am Larry, and I created Abby Normal Studios early this year specifically to create and release some casual games that would be fun to play on a VR headset. Quest2/3 seemed an obvious choice, based on what I understand to be the total number of units shipped. When I first published "Close Encounters", it went to App Lab of course. Since there was no way at that time for App Lab submissions to provide keywords for our apps, my submission was lost in the chasm and could not be found unless the exact name was provided in the search bar. Sales from App Lab were basically zero. When App Lab was combined with the main Meta Store, I was thinking that my app would finally be searchable, which might greatly improve sales. That did not happen, of course, because the keyword search does not work, even though keywords are provided in the app metadata submission. None of this should really be that surprising, given that the merge of the App Lab content and the main Meta Store is probably more complex than any of us realize. What is surprising, however, is that the Meta Store development team apparently refuses to engage with their customer base: all of us app developers. I have been involved in software development and support for 40+ years, and I have found that the best way to ensure a loyal customer base is to respond to all queries honestly and in a timely manner. My products have certainly contained bugs and unintended operational features over the years, but I own those issues and I communicate with my customers and listen intently to their feedback. And I have gained a very loyal customer base. I posted this question to Meta technical support over a month ago: "After the App Lab and the Main App store were combined, it was then possible to enter keywords as part of the metadata for my app. One of my keywords is “breakout”. When I search for “breakout”, I only get 1 match, and that app is not “Close Encounters”. Do the keywords take some period of time to kick in? Also, when I scan the list under Apps->Games->See All, I never see my app. I’m wondering if I have done something wrong. My app appears to be largely invisible to the general public!" This is the response I received from the development team: "The Store team has provided the following information. The Meta Horizon Store aims to match apps and games with the users who are most interested in them. Updating your app’s metadata by adding search keywords and reviewing your app’s category and genres help inform how we identify the best match for a given user. Metadata updates may take some time to impact discoverability and are one of many factors. For additional information about how to market your app, please see our documentation on marketing best practices. As you consider adding search keywords to your app’s metadata, remember that to distribute on the Store, an app’s metadata must match the content of the app (VRC.Content.2)." That answer suggests one of two possibilities: 1: We didn't actually read your question, but we'd appreciate it if you'd stop asking questions about the Store because we are really busy trying to fix everything that is broken. 2: The Store development team never actually received my question, because tech support is overwhelmed and can easily rely on a trove of canned responses that could get this developer to stop annoying us. What I expected to receive from the Store development team was something more along the lines of this: "As you already know by now, the Store team has been working diligently on combining the App Lab store with the main Store, and the transition is taking a bit longer than we anticipated. While some of the search functionality is working as intended, some of the search and keyword support is not yet fully functional." The bottom line is that I believe it's not too much to ask that the Store development team designate someone to answer app developer questions in a timely and authenticate manner. Meta and the app developers all benefit from open and honest communication regarding the entire Meta Store eco-system. Meta benefits from app developers (sales of apps and headsets), and app developers benefit from the Meta platforms. That's not very hard to grasp. At any rate, I did some extensive testing on a Meta Quest headset, the Meta Horizon Mobile App, and the Meta Horizon Web store, and here is what works and what doesn't, as of today: Meta Quest Headset Search apps using filters Sort by price Filter by genre Show apps under $9.99 This search works and my app appears in the listing! Meta Horizon Mobile App (iPhone, iPad, etc.) Search apps using filters Sort by price Filter by genre Show apps under $9.99 This filtered search returns exactly 1 app: Jungle Zoo Ocean… Search apps using filters Sort by price Show apps under $9.99 This filtered search returns a small subset of available apps (my app does not appear) Search apps using keywords This search does not return apps with the specified keywords Search apps using keywords This search does not work, and apps do not appear using keywords (many developers on the meta forum are reporting this also) Meta Horizon Mobile App Summary Many apps are not discoverable using filters or keywords while using the Meta Horizon App on mobile devices. Meta Horizon Store on the Web Filtered searches on the Meta Horizon Store web portal is also broken, and only returns a subset of apps on the store for any given set of filters.990Views6likes1CommentPlease let us developers access the cameras
Please permit us developers access to the cameras/pass through texture/mesh. We can make cool mixed reality apps with that. Privacy is not an issue because you can implement a permission that asks the user if he allows it. Many big companies do it like this. Like Apple/Google lets developers access the camera of a smartphone. What is the real reason why you don't let us access the camera?1.2KViews6likes1Comment
