Research on VR
Hi everyone i am a student based in South Africa and looking to interview IT professionals with experience on Virtual Reality. The project I am doing is focused on the Evolution of VR and how it influences organizations. My research questions are as follows: What Rules and Regulations should be established in organizations once VR is implemented? How will having a VR department in organizations benefit to the company as a whole as well as facilitate VR related challenges in the workspace? What are tangible and non tangible VR challenges will cause concerns in organizations339Views0likes0CommentsHas anyone any suggestions on good resources for gathering high quality market research?
Hi! I'm currently seeking funding to develop a game for the Quest. There are various reasons I think our game ideas are strong and may appeal to players, however finding hard data to support our reasons is hard. Typically we could use questionnaires and approach players and maybe developers for information - but this process is long and generally does not result in high quality data. Unlike Steam, it is very difficult to get concrete data on which games are currently popular, where the money is being spent etc. I know we could trawl through the store and get data there? Is there any other resources I could use to support our game ideas?777Views0likes0CommentsSome of my Research on Designing Modular 3D Interfaces for Virtual Reality
Hi all, In a month ill be presenting my work at HCI International regarding a Modular 3D GUI system I've been developing as part of my PhD research. There is a short video below that I think may be of interest to you devs and hopefully spark some ideas around accessibility. It is video 1/3 that has been developed around my research, each with assocaited papers. In addition, I have a paper being published soon regarding removing tremors for ray-based interaction that I touch on briefly at the start. Very passionate about VR dev and especially this domain, so would like to take this post as an opportunity for discussion around VR UI and Accessible design. https://youtu.be/3NhJOPAUMCs Best of luck on your projects, copys of the pre-prints can be found in the description. Feel free to contact me on my website or twitter otherwise. - Corrie1.7KViews1like0CommentsData security when using own software
Dear Meta team, I plan to use the Quest Pro for behavioral science. Obviously when using Meta software (e.g., Horizon Worlds), behavioral data of my participants would be processed on Meta servers, which would be a no-go in my work environment (i.e., ethics committees would not allow such research). Therefore I will build my own PCVR software with Unity with which research will be conducted. Can I be sure that in this situation, no data from my participants will be sent Meta? Or would the Quest Pro nonetheless send some data (e.g., eye-tracking, voice) to Meta Servers without me actively asking for it? The data processing terms (https://developer.oculus.com/licenses/processingterms-1.2/) are not clear to me in this regards. Kind regards, M Rubo930Views1like0CommentsOVRDisplay.ResetPose only works for yaw?
Hello everyone, for a research paradigm, we are giving our participants a DK2 HMD. We want them to be immersed in the experiment, hence the HMD. Because we have the Camera OBJ drive a preconfigured path, we do not want them to be able to look around. After lots of try and error, we figured that calling OVRDevice.ResetDisplay in Update() helps, but only "disables" the movement for one axis, but we need it for all three. Is that the intended behaviour or is it possible that the path-generator iTween interferes? Could it help calling ResetPose on OVRPlayercontroller? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks /seb1.6KViews0likes7CommentsEngine for research
What's up folks! I'm a PhD student researching human perception of light and colours (yes I'm aware of the research call :) ). I'm looking to investigate the perception of these aspects when viewed with an HMD (more specifically the Rift CV1). I have some experience with rendering, however I have no experience with game/VR engines. I'd like to use an engine that is capable of rendering as realistic as possible (HDR, PBR, spectral) but it seems to me this is simply too slow to use in VR. So my question is threefold: 1) Which engine yields the most realistic images? Hardware is not really an issue here (university fuuunds). 2) Most likely the results of the engine from Q1 won't cut it, so I'm thinking of rendering photorealistic spherical renders and viewing them with a Rift (no parallax I know). Ideally, I could walk around in a scene with the engine from Q1 and, with a press of a button, render such a sphere (with an external renderer such as Octane) and view it when ready (hopefully this is in the order of seconds). Is this AT ALL possible and if so, which engine would be best? 3) I'd also like to be able to let matlab change parameters in the engine while running (such as polygon count, tone mapping, maybe load another spherical render, ...). Again, is this at all possible and if so, which engine would you people suggest? Thanks for taking your time to read this and thanks in advance for the feedback/ideas! Michiel992Views0likes4Comments
