Quest 3 Controllers disconnecting at certain distance
I've been noticing lately that my hands will just suddenly become stiff if I stretch, grab something in VRChat or when I'm trying to grab something on a current model I'm wearing. Its becoming increasingly worrisome that I can't even grab things on certain models that you can actively grabbed Now I'm in a well lit room, my radius is lined by my room so plenty of space. I just don't know what it is, please someone help.10Views0likes0Comments[UNRESOLVED as of May 30, 2024] - Quest 3 Controller Tracking Issues
update May 30, 2024: There have been no updates/improvements to controller tracking since Meta Support marked this as solved! Community consensus seems to be that this issue stems from hardware/software limitations with the controllers, specifically the method of tracking (as a software developer working specifically in the machine learning and computer vision space, I agree that this technology is not particularly robust enough to handle some types of movement). If you play games that require fast hand movements and/or dynamic hand positioning, I would recommend not buying a Quest 3, unfortunately. I've heard some anecdotes regarding improved tracking with the Quest Pro controllers, but the improvements are marginal at best - not worth the additional ~$300 for minimal performance gains IMO. My personal recommendation is to stick to Quest 2. Not to detract from the various improvements that the Quest 3 has brought (e.g., color passthrough w/higher resolution, better hand tracking, higher overall hardware specs compared to Quest 2, etc.), but Quest 2 controller tracking is significantly better than the Quest 3's. Ideally, my hope is that Meta will push an update that allows for pairing Quest 2 controllers with the Quest 3, but as of right now, that's just a pipe dream as Meta has given no indication of making these headsets/controllers backwards compatible. While I'm (naively) hopeful that things will change, realistically speaking, I have 0 expectations and a lot of disappointment. tl;dr: I've had a Quest 2 for almost 3 years. I received my Quest 3 today and was very excited to use it. Controller tracking performance is much worse than the Quest 2, at least in the context of games where you swing your arms as fast as you can. This was not a problem for the Quest 2 (unless controllers were physically damaged, e.g., hitting a wall, dropping them, etc.). Don't buy if you play games like Gorilla Tag, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, or any of the other games mentioned throughout this thread!!! Question: Are there ways to modify the Quest 3's controller tracking such that fast hand movements won't be affected by the prediction-like behavior where the in-game hand moves farther than you swing? When I perform a baseball throwing movement with my hand/arm, the tracking will not keep up and it ends up losing my hand's position for a fraction of a second, causing my in-game hand to be positioned farther away than my hand actually is (this is not an issue with Quest 2 controller tracking). Details/Context: I primarily use VR for exercise, and I mostly play Gorilla Tag. Gorilla Tag is a game where you play as the upper half of a gorilla, using your arms as your means of locomotion. Basically, you use your arms as if they were your legs, and you can run, climb trees, wall-run, etc. It's an infection-based tagging game where you join a lobby of up to 9 other people, and the game will randomly select a player to be the first tagger. The tagger(s) will continue tagging until everyone in the lobby has been tagged (infection-style), and then a random player will be selected as first tagger; this pattern just continuously repeats. While the learning curve is pretty steep to play at a high level, there is a growing community of players who are very competitive (approx. 10-20k players based on the communities I participate in - Competitive Gorilla Tag on Discord and Gorilla Tag Competitive on Discord). As a prominent member of this community, people have been seeking my feedback on whether or not the Quest 3 is worth it. While I feel that a majority of the new features are amazing, I have had issues with the controller tracking. Gorilla Tag is an active game where you're constantly swinging your arms as fast as you can to travel around the map(s) to avoid being tagged. The primary player base for the game is Quest 2 users. Aside from physical damage, most players have not had any problems with controller tracking on the Quest 2, aside from when the controller goes out of the tracking range of the headset (as expected). However, the Quest 3 controllers lose tracking during medium-fast to fast hand movement (medium-fast: like playing catch with a friend; fast: throwing a baseball as hard as you can). The consequence of this in the context of Gorilla Tag is that your in-game arm extends to the game's max arm length frequently, causing your hand to collide with the wall/tree/ground and launch you away from the surface. This is a big issue for games/activities involving fast-paced hand movement as it's not nearly as reliable as the Quest 2 controller tracking performance.Solved185KViews49likes524CommentsQuest 2 camera's not tracking properly?
My Quest 2 was working fine. I hadn't used it for a month or 2 and decided to boot it up. It would start up and seem normal for a few seconds. Then the camera tracking would float off and the image would freeze for a couple seconds. It would do this over and over. I thought a factory reset might solve the problem but now it just does the same thing while trying to load into the starting environment. It goes back and forth between freezing on the environment back to pass through loading into environment, tracking floats away, goes back to pass through, loads back into environment. Over and over. I have no way of accessing my menu to check tracking settings. I assume one of my cameras might have become faulty. I replaced a camera once roughly 2 years ago and it worked good as new. I think maybe its the same camera that became faulty. But I would like to like to figure out how I can know for sure. I don't want to end up replacing all 4 and have it still not working. Maybe it could be a firmware issue. I don't really know.48Views0likes1CommentMeta Quest 3 Stuck In Boot Loop and In Locked State
First of all my headsets lock state says locked, I was just booting up my meta quest 3 to play some gorilla tag(like always) and I was able to boot up the hedseat but the hedseat wasnt tracking properly, i was able to boot up gorilla tag before my hedseat fully shut down, when i tried to boot it up again it started a boot loop. Tried to shut it down using the USB something screen(idk the full name) and forcefully shut it down, boot it up again after 5 minutes, still a bootloop, reset the headset a few more times, boot loop stopped but i still couldnt boot it up, left it there, it booted up, couldnt do anything cause my headset wasnt tracking anything and cameras were just not working, since i couldnt do anything i shut it down, boot loop started again and i currently have the headset shut down, what should i do?6.9KViews0likes25CommentsQuest 2 Controller Tracking Degradation
Hi everyone, I’m hoping for some input from experienced Quest 2 users before I make a final decision regarding controller replacement / moving away from meta by upgrading my headset. Over time, my right touch controller (and to a lesser extent the left) has developed noticeable tracking degradation. This wasn’t a sudden failure, it gradually became more apparent during gameplay, particularly in Beat Saber where consistent tracking is important for accuracy and fitness use. I’ve gone through extensive troubleshooting, including: Testing in multiple rooms (including a different property) Controlled lighting conditions (no direct sunlight, no reflective surfaces, no LED interference) Fresh batteries (multiple brands) Re-pairing controllers Cleaning headset cameras and controller rings Guardian reset Full factory reset Testing both standalone and via PCVR The issue persists across all environments. I’ve been in contact with support and understand that, as the device is out of warranty, replacement controllers would need to be purchased through the out-of-warranty program. Investing close to £100 in refurbished replacements, seems very risky and steep, I want to be absolutely certain there isn’t a less obvious cause I’ve overlooked, especially since the root cause hasn’t been conclusively identified as hardware failure. Has anyone experienced gradual tracking degradation like this and successfully resolved it without replacing hardware? I’m particularly interested in: Battery contact or movement issues Less obvious environmental interference Known long-term wear factors Any advanced diagnostics I can try I use my headset primarily for exercise, so reliability is important, but I’d prefer to rule out every possible factor before committing to replacement hardware. Appreciate any constructive suggestions — thank you in advance.142Views0likes5CommentsFrequent micro stuttering in Meta Quest 3
Hello, I've owned a Meta Quest 3 for a few days now. Since yesterday, I've noticed a "micro stuterring" problem that appears when I use the headset in standalone mode. This is the same problem described by pan.c.kaplanis and Renegade_R in this topic (see page 2 and following) : https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/VR-Experiences/Some-Quest-3-standalone-games-are-lagging-stuttering/td-p/1100483/highlight/true/page/2 Nevertheless, I'm making a new topic because the previous one was initially about Beat Saber (but it's been diverted to Home), and because the problem is marked "Solved" whereas it's not solved at all in my case. Problem description: In the Home application and standalone games, at certain moments, for example when I crouch or strafe from right to left, "micro stutters" appear. This is very visible on the Home application interface, but you can see it by looking at the background too. It's as if for a very short moment (1 frame) the position of the headset shifts, giving the impression that the image is hopping, before returning to its initial position. It happens very quickly, and the shift is not huge. Nevertheless, the repetition of the phenomenon makes it noticeable. The problem appears when I crouch or strafe to the sides. It doesn't appear every time I do these movements, but it happens regularly. I have the impression that micro stutters appear more often when I'm pointing at something with the controller, and/or when the boundary walls are displayed. The problem is extremely noticeable on nearby objects, but it also affects distant scenery. Unfortunately, when recording video, the problem simply doesn't appear, or appears too subtly. In any case, I'm not able to perceive it on video. I'm convinced that this problem wasn't present 3 days ago when I unpacked my helmet. I think it appeared with upgrade v59 as I found other reports of stuterring appearing at that time. I'm now on upgrade v60 but the problem persists. It's annoying because using the headset is generally smooth, but these micro stutters are so recurrent that they're ruining my life in Quest 3. Incidentally, I have the impression that the problem is also present in PCVR with the Link cable. I have the impression of seeing these micro stutters when I crouch in Half Life Alyx. But here I'm less sure, because I know that in PCVR, problems can come from many places. I really hope that an origin for this problem can be found, as all the posts I see on the net suggest that the problem appeared with update v59 and hasn't been fixed since. I can hardly use the headset at the moment, as this problem is really getting on my nerves.Solved21KViews1like25CommentsMeta Quest 3s lost tracking
I was going to play on my headset but when i booted it i got a error saying tracking is lost. I tried rebooting and everything plus got No Command error then it got fixed. Played on it for more than 10 minutes while playing it was lagging more than usual and got the same error. I have no idea what to do please help.61Views0likes3CommentsQuest 3 Update Broke My emulated tracking and other problems as well.
Since the last update, I'm having major tracking issues. Estimation tracking is completely unusable. I keep getting a Link Not Working error and the error persists even after I turned off auto link. Hand and body tracking is now unreliable. Sometimes the main menu gets stuck while Im playing games forcing me to find the application that Im playing to close menu. This update is buggy and have some many softaware errors. I tried resetting boundaries and deleting boundary history as well. At some point I even factory reset just for it to break again. Please roll back your updates or fix the problems because I'm unfortunately not the only one.44Views0likes0CommentsMeta Quest 3 Grey screen after factory reset
HI Team, I have tracking lost issue and did factory reset from Headset as per the instructions given by Meta. But I can see only gray screen. The start-up guide is not coming up after multiple ons and offs, and i left the headset charging for 24 hours as well. It is really frustrating to have this kind of issues. I am not running a VR center and my business has been stopped due to this issue. Please let me know a quick remedy8KViews0likes34Comments
