I'm trying to help my friend with his vr game but the upload button is completely disabled on all release channels, what do I do?

This was driving me crazy, too. The Developer Hub tool uses the command line ovr-platform-util behind the scenes to perform the upload. If that tool isn't on-path, it will gray the button out. Here's how to fix it:
That fixed it for me. Hope it fixes it for you, too!

I have the same problem with the device settings. The Change nickname button is greyed out but downloading the ovr-platform-util didn't help there. Any advice?

This might sound silly, but I've noticed on my machine, when I first open that menu all `Upload` buttons are disabled initially. But when I click on one of the `...` buttons, it pops up a small menu and the `Upload` buttons instantly become enabled.
I'm aware this sounds silly and it might not be what you are, but thought I'd share my experience. Also I don't remember having to download the `ovr-platform-util` like mentioned before at all.

I still have this problem, then I take a look of app log which path is "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\odh\odh.log", it shows that downloading cli error.
So I copy ovr-platfrom-util.exe to "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\odh" to fix it.
Then it works for me!!
I guess the root cause is a weak network connetion.
