Can you cast to Chromecast without an internet connection?

Is there a way to cast from my Quest 2 to Chromecast WITHOUT active internet but WITH a working wifi network?

I want to be able to stream my quest to a tv through Chromecast in a remote location without internet.

My setup is a 5g TP link router with a wifinetwork setup and a Chromecast connected to it. The thing is I can only get it to work with an active Internet connection. (That works flawlessly)

I was.hoping to be able to cast via my local wifi network without Internet on remote locations here I have no internet

Or is an internet connection always necessary to be able to stream? I can runt VR project without internet perfectly. Just not able to cast

You will need an active internet connection to be able to cast. You can find more information and details in Cast to a screen with Meta Quest. Although casting directly to a Chromecast device or TV is not fully supported by Meta, you still have the option to try it out! To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Meta Quest mobile app on your phone.
  2. Select in the top right of your screen.
  3. Under Cast From, select the headset you'd like to cast from.
    • Make sure it says 'Connected' under your listed headset.
  4. Under Cast To, select This Phone or the Chromecast device you want to use.
  5. Tap Start at the bottom of your screen, put your headset on and accept the in-VR prompt to start casting.

REMINDER: Some Chromecast  devices or TVs may not work. Meta does not have a list of which devices or TVs will or will not work.

We hope this clarifies everything, reach back out for any further assistance!

Hey there, @Ejdb01! Casting your device to a TV for others to see is a fun experience and we would love to share what information we can for this. So Chromecast specifically is not something we officially support, so we cannot guarantee it will work with your device with internet or without. In this case, you can try checking for information related to Chromecast on their website to see if it works with other devices without internet, and hopefully that will provide more information for you in this case. If you have any other questions, we will be more then happy to assist further.

Ok, let's forget about the Chromecast then. Is there any way to cast/stream to TV without cables connected to quest 2? And preferably without having an active Internet connection available?

Wanted to add to this in the hopes I could get a hand. I'm not OP.

You CAN cast to a chromecast without internet, using an RT-AXE7800 router I was able to do so simply by starting the cast (while being connected to the internet) and then unplugging the internet cable. Cast was still happening, as I imagine it just uses the signal from the router. Apparently, all you need internet for is to send an initial package and then you're good, you can unplug the internet and it still going to work without issues.

From what I read, I need to set up DHCP server on my router. Working on that, I'm not knowledgable about the subject.

Thanks but I want to use my glasses in areas where there is no internet available.

I've found a bit of a workaround that I've yet to test. Gotta fix my phone first. So, at the very least with android phones, you can share your phone's internet to a router via a (in my case) a USB type C to Ethernet adapter. With that, I should theoretically be able to start the cast and then stop sharing my phones internet to the router and it still gonna work.

It is kind of dumb you need an active internet connection, but it is what it is.

That sounds interesting.....but can you actually share you mobile internet through that usb-c to Ethernet adapter? That would be nice and worth the try

Still need help?
