Does “The Utility Room” work on the Quest 3?

I ask because I keep getting a ‘Fatal Error’ when trying to start it.

Hmmm….  I have the Meta Store version (I don’t have Steam installed) and can confirm that the Oculus OpenXR runtime is the active one.  I do occasionally use Virtual Desktops VDXR, but I activate that only when I run MSFS.  So, as you say, it does look like something else is amiss!

Thanks anyway for your thoughts!

Hey again @UlyssesWolf Glad to hear you were able to find a workaround so you could play. This game is specifically only for Rift and Rift S. The app should only be showing you games with associated devices you own. With out having a Rift associated to your account, it wouldn't bring up those games, unless they were also available for Quest. It should be possible to run it on your Quest 3 using a link to PC. On the game page to the right, there is some base game information, such as platform, which can some times be only for Rift/Rift S. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Are you using the Steam or Meta Rift store version?

There are a couple posts on Steam saying the game will only run using Oculus as the active OpenXR runtime, not SteamVR. Do you know which one is set as active?

Also, running the game from your Rift library, rather than the Steam library solves the problem but that may be the same active runtime issue (there should be a shortcut created there even if you're using the Steam version). Do you know which runtime is set as active?

If you're running the Meta Rift store version, then something else may be amiss!

OK @UlyssesWolf I don't have the game installed so I don't think I can add much more, other than to try reinstalling.

Hopefully someone on the forum has had the same problem and can chip in here.

Hi there, @UlyssesWolf I see you're looking to play "The Utility Room" on your quest 3, but keep getting a fatal error. We want everyone to be able to play and enjoy their games, so we're happy to look into this for you we do need some information from you first.

  • Does this happen with any other games?
  • Is there any additional information you could provide on the Fatal error or possibly a screen shot

A few steps you can do that may help:

  • Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date
  • Reinstall the application

If this doesn't work, could you please PM us? We'll need to gather some information from you and get you to a specialist to dig deeper.

Thanks for expressing an interest in this issue, however, I have since requested and received a refund for the game.  I then (against my better judgement) bought the Steam version simply out of curiosity which worked without any problems at all.   One thing I did notice though was that although the game is listed on the meta store in the PC oculus app, I couldn’t find it when I searched on the Android phone app.   Something odd was occurring, but I have no idea what it could have been!

B.
