I don't have any inside information, but I wouldn't hold your breath on 3050 Ti support. It's currently listed as "not recommended" on our compatibility page. I know this isn't the news anyone is wanting to hear, but the requirements are listed on the website and if you really want to play PC VR using the link, then you should look into a PC with hardware that's currently supported.

Hello! We understand that having the GPU 3050 TI available for the Meta device to play your games on would be fantastic. However, most laptops are not currently compatible with Meta devices because most of the games in the device require a very powerful GPU.

You are welcome to go here and see which PCs and laptops are compatible with the device. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns, and we will be happy to help.

That's not a very good reason. I can play most games that I want to play in VR with Virtual Desktop. Let us decide if we want to risk performance issue and place a soft warning.

To answer OP's question, sure, it's always possible to update software to be compatible with more devices. Will it happen? Who knows.

Also, allowing users to run software on devices that "risk performance issues" is a double edged sword. On one hand, sure it works, but then users complain that it doesn't work well enough. The flip side is they don't support it, then users complain that it's not supported at all. Just seems better to wait until it's fully supported instead of playing it poorly on hardware that's not recommended.

Just my 2 cents.

Could you please ask your colleagues if they are at least planning to work on it? Or currently working?

Just simple answer to simple question

I just bought this laptop with this card and it most certainly is a gaming unit. For what I want to do, low setting will not affect me in the least. Let those of us with these laptops use these devices. I am tired of being trapped in my headset to run events. I have so many people without headsets with these laptops that want to attend events in Horizon worlds and have zero desire to pay for headset for just this one purpose.

Yeah, they didn't even exclude the GPU from the system requirements on their own website at the time

I can play Half-life Alyx and other somewhat intensive games just fine.

They support weaker cards but not this one. Should have a warning even if the the users needs to go to the settings to toggle a setting that also gives some sort of acknowledgment.

Radio silence on this post, and that is really sad because these are gaming units and can run Most things without issue. Let us deal with any hiccups that arise from choppiness if you think our systems cannot handle the experience.

Would you mind sharing your graphics settings with me?  I just got a laptop with a 3050 Ti mobile card in it and HL: Alyx doesn't seem to run all that well on it. 🫤

Hey SurrealJun! We understand you are having issues with the performance you are receiving from your PC. This is not the experience we want our customers to have to go through and would like to look at this more. If you could please submit a support ticket by going here and following the prompts.
