Rift/Quest Link software setup crashing after I click Agree.

Had Rift software installed on my PC about a year ago, which back then it was well below specs for running Oculus Link. Now that it's up to spec, I went to reinstall the software - but it just crashes on setup. Video below.

Note that after this, I still wanted to use VD and SteamVR, so I had to use some zero'd out .exe's VD looks for but doesn't actually use and some registry hacks to get Virtual Desktop and SteamVR to run PCVR without the Oculus software. Have already removed these from my computer for now.

Hello, @avali bs We hate to hear you're having trouble installing our software; let's try to get you up and running again. Can you please try these steps to see if the app doesn't crash?

  1. Go to www.oculus.com/setup scroll down to the Quest 2 and click Download software.
  2. Select Repair.
  • If Windows asks you if you’re sure you want to open this file, click Yes.
  • If Windows Defender prompts Windows protected your PC, click More info and then click Run anyway.
  • If your antivirus software restricts the file from opening, temporarily disable your AV and continue.
  • Please remember to re-enable your antivirus software once you've completed the repair.
  1. Allow the repair process to run, download and install.
  2. Launch the Oculus PC app.

Once you complete these steps, take the time to check and see if your device is still showing up errors. If so, kindly reach back out to us so we can investigate and find a solution for immediately! Always here to help!

The only problem is that there's no repair option - I haven't been able to install the software yet. I managed to get a copy of the Setup that didn't crash (it's unmodified, from June 2019 thanks to the internet archive) and each time I try to install it does this now.

Have already restarted my PC and retried this multiple times. Have also tried downloading new copies of the setup from oculus.com/setup, no luck.

We value the information you provided about the download methods you used. We want to be certain that we have exhausted all of our options. Let's give the following a try:

  • Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  • Disconnect your computer from the internet
  • Backup any necessary content
  • Reboot into Safe Mode
  • Uninstall Oculus Home using the Control Panel
  • Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  • Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  • Restart your computer in normal mode
  • Reconnect your computer to the internet
  • Install Oculus Home again
  • Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Please let us know if this doesn't work so we can take the appropriate steps.
