Sudden problem with Radeon 295x2

So I'm having a strange problem today with the Rift.

When I first got my Rift last October, I had an issue trying to get any picture whatsoever to appear in the headset. I ended up fixing that by purchasing a new hdmi converter for the video card (this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DUTIYMY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

Today, after not using the Rift for a couple weeks, it seems that I'm having the exact same issue, with seemingly no prompting. The Oculus software picks up that the headset is connected, but there's no image in the headset when I reach that part of setup. Has there been a driver update or something that could have caused this? Is it more likely a hardware issue? I plugged a monitor into the port to make sure it was still working.

any help would be much appreciated.
