Hi there, I've retired my triple screen setup and now have moved to basically just the Rift and Bigscreen... I have just one screen setup for guests to view what I'm seeing in VR
I'm not good at touch typing... What options are there to see the keyboard without having to lift the Rift and type and then put it back on?
Well none atm I think. I use a bright illuminated keyboard and I can peek out the gap of the nose area of the rift. I cant touch type but when I am playing my favourite games I am pretty good at getting the right keys this way.
I've heard people talk about seeing through the nose gap... sadly I have a big nose and there is no gap for me 😞 On the positive side I get no light bleed or anything into my Rift when I wear it 🙂
I use the nose gap as well, although I don't need it much since there are a few bumps on some of the keys that help me get my hands back in position. You could always get a keyboard with custom bumps, or just buy a few bump stickers:
It's the ideal time to leran touch typing. It's not difficult at all, just force yourself not to look at your keyboard. The most importan tool we had to learn touch typing in class was an A4 paper taped over our mechanical typewriters.
Agreed. You'd be surprised with how fast you can learn with just a little practice.
Force yourself to look only at the screen while typing (or tape some paper like Thmoas said), and you have instant feedback for any mistakes. Eventually, you'll get to where you notice errors and hit backspace to correct based only on feeling the keyboard without actually seeing the monitor.
