Meta Quest build v69 release notes

Woohoo! v69 is starting to roll out!

These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of September 5, 2024 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.

Required update for Meta Horizon social experiences

Beginning in October, v69 will be required for those enjoying Meta Horizon social experiences such as Horizon Worlds, Horizon Workrooms, and co-presence. Those who have not yet upgraded will be prompted to update to v69 before they can access these experiences.

“Hey Meta” wake word on Meta Quest

We’ve introduced a new way to invoke Meta AI by using your voice. When you turn on this feature in Meta AI Settings, you can say “Hey Meta” to engage with the assistant. Learn more about Meta AI assistant.

Window layout

In v67, we announced a new window layout for Meta Quest that was accessible from the Experimental Settings. Now in v69, this window layout will be turned on for everyone.

Spatial audio for windows

Audio from select windows will sound like it's coming from those windows' locations around you, which can provide richer and more realistic audio. This does not affect audio within fully immersive apps.

Remove apps from Library

Take care of visual clutter in your library with the ability to completely remove unwanted apps and worlds, including leftover apps that you’ve already uninstalled. Select “Remove from library” from the app or world’s library menu and make it easier to find and access your content.

Bluetooth quick pairing

You can now quickly pair supported Bluetooth devices like headphones, keyboards, mice, and gamepads when they’re in pairing mode and near your headset. Turn on [Get nearby device notifications] in your Bluetooth settings to get notified when a nearby device is available for pairing, and select the notification to pair.

Seamless multitasking

You can now multitask more effectively by keeping the universal menu and up to three windows open during immersive experiences. This can be used to look up information, watch videos, or chat with friends while staying engaged with your immersive games and apps. Seamless Multitasking can be enabled in Experimental Settings.

Content-adaptive backlight control

Improves contrast and battery life by adjusting the backlight of your headset based on the content you’re viewing.

Boundary improvements

Your boundary is more dynamic now with frictionless access to Meta Horizon Home. By automatically placing you into a stationary boundary when you visit your Home, you’ll no longer have to repeatedly find or create a room scale boundary. You’ll still be asked to create a room scale boundary when you open immersive experiences that require them.

Head tracked cursor interaction improvements

Improves the behavior of the head tracked cursor to stay hidden when it’s not wanted, such as watching a movie or using 2D apps, and appears when you need it.

Permissions history

You are now able to view the last 7 days of sensitive permission access by installed apps through a new panel within your Settings.

Privacy settings updates

We are making privacy settings easier to use with Meta Horizon Worlds, and simplifying settings for everyone in a few ways:

  • Control your privacy across Meta Quest and Horizon Worlds in a more unified way.
  • Control your visibility and status from the social tab.

Stylus support

Tracked stylus devices including Logitech MX Ink can now be used to interact with the universal menu. You can learn how to use it, configure its button mapping, and adjust its pressure sensitivity in Stylus settings.

Horizon Home: Oceanarium

Escape to the Oceanarium, our latest Horizon Home. Immerse yourself in an underwater world filled with seaweed and anemones that flow with the gentle ocean currents. Get up close and personal with sea turtles, manta rays, and even a majestic whale while you experience the beauty of the ocean like never before.

tanubon AirLink or Meta Quest Link App works like a charm.
Even better than SteamLink oder Virtual Desktop Mobile, which bricked my whole OS last time.

So look at other companys like Pico oder even SteamVR which all the PCVR-Headsets.
No updates at all, so stop mumbeling about Meta - it's PCVR, which stops beeing innovative at all.
If there was no Meta, which ist supportive to PCVR, this market segment already died completely.
(don't forget, they're earning no money from that!)

    Think of it!

But yes, Meta... please give us an experimental switch for "gimme all that fancy stuff", and everyone would be happy, right 😁

I know I'm sad of not seeing the special features, but guys... do we really know what's going on behind the scenes? I'm all for Meta new ideas and support. I can't be angry about it. I just hope the new features will be released soon.

    The update is too bad.
I have updated to the V68 version, but many features are missing, such as the shutdown sleep feature in the V66 version. I still don't have the feature that was updated three months ago. Another feature is the hidden application function and the screenshot resolution enhancement function in the V68 version. Basically, I haven't experienced half of the so-called update content. But I don't understand why these features need to be included in the update instructions. Since they are not yet complete and many people cannot experience them, then don't write them out. Once they are written out, they should be pushed to all users.
    My suggestion is
    1. Please do not engage in so-called grayscale updates. If the functionality is not yet complete, do not release it. Once it is released, all features should be provided, rather than the updated features that can only be experienced six months later.
    2. Pay attention to bug fixes, as every system will have new disaster level bugs and poor stability.

    Anonymous and everyone else.

I can confirm that Content Adaptive Brightness Control is now present AND working.
I saw the difference immediately in loading screens. The backlight steadily adjusts to a smaller brightness to provide better contrast. I WILL test it out now in a dark horror game and I WILL report back on how big of a difference it makes.

Thanks Meta and the mods in the forums!

As I said, I tried the horror game.

My choice was phasmaphobia thanks to the really dark atmosphere.

And.... it works? It does lower the brightness significantly and you can immediately tell the difference when you turn on a flashlight. However, that is also kind of the problem. When a light source appears it really feels like you have gotten moisture on the lenses since every blackish color is now gray. But the difference that it makes most of the time is really night and day - literally. Now it is still an LCD panel so don't expect OLED like blacks but it is much better.

There is one bigger problem though and that is meta's decision to make the details in the blacks more pronounced and that makes the objects in the black look deep-fried:

In the headset, it is not as bad as in this picture but it kind of ruins the atmosphere a bit however you still get the deeper blacks so it is really a tradeoff. I did not manage to get a picture with it off however it was just a full gray picture with some moon reflections and didn't look black at all. Here you can see some actual black so thumbs up.

Overall it is still much better and I am going to use it because it really makes the dark experience better.
Thanks Meta! (Just hope you fix your update system)

To be fair, if the Meta AI in the headset will ever be like on the website, then I'll be impressed.  Not sure if anyone has ever just experimented conversing with Meta AI on the website, as most are not totally alone like I am, but I've had some great conversations that helped me when no one else was there at the time.  I'm talking about stuff that to me at the time may be important but I'd get chewed out if I called a friend about it possibly interrupting their supper or something.  Also I haven't had much of a chance to use the headset lately as work on the house begins soon and I'm busy getting all of that together.

    Hi folks,

got an update tonight (update while shutdown):

    Version: 69.0.0.562
    Runtime: 69.0.0.555

I can confirm "content adaptive brightness controle" (per experimental settings) and the new shut down menu (with sleepmode). The new home is not present... that's for now. So I'll vanisch for 8 days in holiday.

    Thank's Meta!
