Meta Quest v55 Release Notes

These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of June 21st, 2023 and will be rolling out to Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.Β

Quest performance improvements

We’re continuing to move VR forward by pushing the boundaries of what Quest Pro and Quest 2 are capable of. With v55, we’re enabling higher clock speeds for the CPU and GPU for all Quest Pro and Quest 2 headsets, giving you smoother gameplay and a more responsive UI. This update also adds more power for developers to take advantage of for both existing and upcoming apps.Β

Β

These performance improvements include:

  • Up to 26% increase in CPU speed for Quest Pro and Quest 2
  • Up to 19% increase in GPU for Quest 2
  • Up to 11% increase in GPU for Quest ProΒ

Passcode

We’re adding the ability to use a passcode to unlock your device, which will work like the unlock pattern. As this feature gradually rolls out, you’ll be able to set up a numerical passcode between 4 and 12 characters to unlock your device, enter saved passwords, and more. You’ll be able to manage your passcode from Security in Settings.Β

Messenger in VR

We’re updating the Messenger experience in VR to help you connect and make new friends while in the metaverse. With v55, we’re bringing the Messenger app, including messaging and audio calling to VR, so you can hang out with those who matter most regardless of which device they use.

Β

People you follow are online indicator

You’ll now see a green circle on the People tab in the universal menu to help you know when people you follow are online.

Β

Explore redesign

We’re gradually rolling out an experimental design with new content for the default landing page in VR, Explore, so you can effortlessly engage with your communities, compelling entertainment, and immersive experiences.Β

Β

A few of the Explore changes we’re experimenting with include:

  • New layout formats
  • Reels in VR
    • Reels in VR will only be shown to users who have a Facebook or Instagram account in the same Accounts Center as their Meta account
  • Meta Avatars Store
  • Meta Horizon Worlds featured worlds
  • Media content from Peacock, YouTube VR, Pluto TV and XtadiumΒ Β

Easier avatar editing in real-time

We made it easier to travel to the mirror in your Horizon Home to edit your avatar. With just one click on the mirror, you will be transported and ready to view real-time edits to your avatar in an optimal position.

  • This will be rolling out gradually.

Β

Eye tracking improvements

Β

We’ve improved eye tracking on Quest Pro to make it more accurate across a broader field of view and during expressions like winking. For the most accurate eye tracking, you can always recalibrate by going to Movement Tracking in Settings, then Eye tracking, then Calibrate eye tracking.Β

Β

Use hands on notifications

We’re gradually rolling out a new way to interact with notifications in VR using your hands. With hand tracking turned on, you’ll be able to tap on icons or buttons, or swipe to dismiss a notification.

Β

New virtual environments

Β

We’re releasing two new virtual environments:

  • Futurescape: As featured in this year’s Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, Futurescape combines futurism with the beauty and tranquility of nature. You can try out this new environment by going to Personalization in Settings.Β

Β

Β

  • The Great Sand Sea: Available for download to all Meta Quest users who pre-ordered Asgard’s Wrath 2, The Great Sand Sea is a large, free roaming, living world that allows you to immerse yourself in the mysterious sands of a vast desert landscape in VR. Once you pre-order Asgard’s Wrath 2, you can download this new Home environment from the Meta Quest app or directly from your Meta Quest headset and then launch the environment from the Home screen.Β

Β

Browser multi-touch support

Β

Quest Browser now has multi-touch gesture support, allowing you to use Touch controllers or your hands to zoom in, zoom out, or interact with other web elements.

Apparently v55 release is rolling out now slowly but I don't have it yet. Apparently network issues were introduced in v54 and they are aware and working to correct it.

Rollout can take up to 3 weeks for all regions.  Just be patient.  To better your odds try at an off time with respect to your region so early morning or late at night.

Where is V55. I haven't gotten such updates, it said on the week of June 21st. It would start being available. This headset is brand new I got it a few days ago for my b-day to replace my 3 year old one, and I was so hyped to not only have a working headset again but also an amazing update on the graphics and resolution stuff. Yet no matter how many times I check, there's nothing there. πŸ˜•

All just because it begins to roll out the 21 of June, doesn't mean all regions and servers will get it.

Exactly this! Also, some updates start rolling out and get delayed for some reason. This is in part the reason rollouts are gradual, so that we can get early signal on if there might be a bug that was missed at one of the previous check points.

On that note, the Air Link improvements should now be available to everyone with v54 or v55 (any build numbers), so if you've rebooted your headset in the last couple days you'll have them. The fix will help even out performance on certain apps and games that are sensitive to changes in network latency in addition to Air Link. That includes Virtual Desktop and some games like Eleven Table Tennis which were at times suffering.

If anyone is still having trouble when using Air Link, there may be something causing network latency or something else with the same symptoms, so please do post about what you're experiencing or feel free to contact our support team.

Help others find great discussions and answers by adding kudos and marking solutions to your questions.

When can we update the OS in Asia? Ver 55 is released, but still not available to update.

Are you guys having a problem with update? By backtracking older threads it seems that it is taking far more time than the other ones to be rolled out to everyone.

I am on PTC and it could be considered fair that we get the update as fast as everyone else since we are stuck with the issues we've reported plus the older ones for more time. I really value the opportunity to test the new functions and complain about everything that was implemented and was removed too.

I value the work of the people on the development and public relations departments who tries to make something out of this mess but I am really tired of the ones who pushes the buttons and manages it all.

The PTC V55 .150 don't have the new functions and boost yet, so im curious about it too. I can push the GPU to 587mhz using third party software or console commands through adb, but that's not new, I think the studio that developed Red Matter used this power level officially on their game.

This is kind of ridiculous imo. End of the month and still no update? Come on guys, the least you can do is give people the option of getting it when they want it with the disclaimer that there might be issues.....

Think about the math 20million users over the globe.  And your asking for a roll out in less than 2 weeks.  And not have the servers crash.  3 to 4 weeks is minimum roll out adoption.  Also they don't give priority to any particular user base, so if you are a pcvr user or standalone user you have the same estimate when you get it.  It has more to do about region you are in and spot in line.  Typically off hours use influence when you get it, but otherwise it's a crap shoot.  That said if you get the v55 firmware zip file there are a few on Google drive from other users you can do a manual install.  But I don't recommend it, as roll out might be rolled back.

Just another PCVR user here, my DCS sessions are now FUBAR - Airlink dropping out after a minute or two, crashing the game and needing a full restart of game and headset ......then it breaks almost instantly.  Sadly the whole thing has become unusable.

Still no V55 update here in London.

Hmmm, Microsoft seems to push out updates ever second Tuesday of the month to over 1.4 billion installs.

Any way I just wanted to say I got the Futurescape environment even before I got v54.I haven't gotten v55 yet. l tend to get new environments before anything else.

July 1, 2023

I have v55, but waiting for v56. πŸ™Š
