Latest firmware update destroyed Air Link completely... transfer times can be incredibly unstable (it makes latency very unstable). I don't know why, but it's especially bad when I look up. Of course, strange encoder framedrop is still there.

I am still unable to connect to my 6e 6GHz network after the second v53 update.  I believe it has something to do with the fact I’m using a Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro 6e router, which shares an SSID between all bands with no way to split them out - but my Quest Pro should be able to connect, it is in the same room in line of sight and only a few feet away from the router.

I have different Wifi network names for 2.4/5/6GHz networks.
Sharing a SSID it letting your devices choosing whatever then expect to work the best.
Try to specify a SSID for your 6GHz network, to get a fixed channel and a fixed bandwith. Maybe it can help.

I appreciate the reply, thank you.  This router does not allow you to split out the SSID’s of your network bands, or turn bands on/off, or allow for manual channel settings - it’s fully automated or I would test different settings, as it is dedicated to my Pro’s wireless VR streaming.

Given it also has the same network name for 2.4GHz and the fact my Pro never has issue between that and 5GHz - I know band steering is working at least in some capacity, however it won’t switch to 6GHz.

Hey guys, I was able to improve my wi-fi connection by turning off Wi-Fi 6 on my router. I don't have 6E on my router by the way.

Also, local dimming is there, but you need to activate it by entering in the ADB command:
adb shell setprop debug.oculus.localDimming 1
You can use Sidequest to do this. Once you have sent the command to the headset, you then need to put the headset into sleep mode and back to restart the video display. After this point you now have system wide local dimming until you reboot or turn it off with a 0 at the end of this ADB command instead of a 1 (seriously, who would intentionally turn off local dimming?).

The second patch still have not fix the controllers issue for me. Every time I put the the headset to sleep (or reboot it) will make controllers lost connection with the headset completely unless I do a full factory reset for the headset.

Update: I received the second update to PTC53 and my lag spikes are all gone, stays sub 10ms now.

Everything is back to normal and smooth as butter, pegged at 90fps.

Airlink at 200 fixed works perfectly again no spikes and on 6Ghz 160 width (auto channel)

the headset takes a minute to connect to 6Ghz but once connected all good.

also, the jittery passthrough home screen is fixed for me too.

I enabled my Airlink tweak again to 600mbps on H264 with 5 numslices and its crystal clear and smooth.

the second update is a good one, note its a silent update and you will note the version # change only (look at the last number should be 83

Air Link is and always has been s**t...! What am I doing wrong..??? My setup is this Asus desktop 5800x with 32gb ram and rtx 3070 wired directly to an Asus AX3000 router (this is then connected to the house router for internet) the router is set to 5ghz (20mhz, 40Mhz, 80Mhz 160Mhz bands) and fixed to channel 36 (Nothing around is using that channel, phone scanner app tells me that) Yet on my Quest Pro I can barely get above 60mb bitrate (default air link settings) and my Quest 2 maxs out at 135mb bitrate, both jump around like crazy and are unstable according to the debug tool display in the headsets. Plug my Quest Pro in USB 3 and I can max nearly everything out..!!?? Something is throttling my bandwidth (i'm only 2 foot from the router at all times) I've tired single bands and switching all sorts of toggles on and off within the routers settings and nothing makes a bit of difference?? (BTW this has been like this way before V45! didn't have my gaming rig before then only a laptop!) Now speaking of my laptop I get faster speeds with that and that's only a 4800X and 1660ti 16GB ram!?! Also task manager reports the same speeds for OVRserver ?? Now this can't be my router as this speed is being detected before it gets to my router..?? Sorry for the long post i'm completely out of idea's HELP!

are the bands separated by different SSIDs? or is it defaulted to one ssid for all 3 bands? I say this because the intelligent steering never works right and always best to break out the bands to thier own SSID.

what does the quest say when you look at network details (gear icon)

look at the network settings of the PC, is it 100 or 1000 connection?

I've turned the 2.4Ghz band radio off (not needed) and the gear icon says 5Ghz PHY connection 2401 for both Up & Down. Do a speed test with the inbuilt browser I get just over 500 Mbps (1 Gig to the house)

I am not sure if it is V53 related, but my left quest pro controllers menu button works very sporadically now. Tracking and other buttons operate ok. Holding the button down doesn't restart it. I did put in a support ticket since it may/may not be related to a recent update. Just started earlier this week.

After the v53 update , everything is back to normal for me, airlink working with no lag, standalone working with no lag, turned ptc off, still on v53, never trying a beta again, im just happy to be back to normal

Quest 2 rolled back to v51.  EVERYTHING works now!   Good job!

As a side note to the devs.   I did a LOT of accidental fps testing between the two versions trying to get v53 stable.  Looks like v53 gained a few frames in several PCVR tittles but at a major cost of stability, studdering and dropped frames across the board,  and the gains were a relatively small percentage definitely not objectively worthy the cost.  I'm no programer, but from a hardware perspective, it's like when you get an unstable overclock on a GPU or CPU, that's what it felt like.

Think is see the results they were trying to get, I have no idea the mechanism, there were a few gain here and there.

But with all that said, v51 is a solid release, I'm perfectly happy with it. Good job on the quick fix

I would be curious about why you feel there is an improvement in PCVR with ANY oculus air link update. The app is the app, oculus software is only performing the encoding which is mainly a GPU hardware thing that got almost none impact on the game rendering.

I am not trolling or trying to tell you are not right ! It's a serious question. What are the hints that make you feel it performs better (the only thing I may think about is that the oculus service to encode the game video stream is lighter on the cpu side)

You are correct, image quality is slightly better which is good IF and only IF you can maintaine the frames in whatever your playing. If you are playing something thats so heavy on the system that your rendering below your refresh rate by more than about 10 FPS, Space Warp kicks in and the ASW on Virtual Desktop is WAY WAY better with that and far easier to disable.  As actually I've tweaked VD enough that the difference in eveything else makes VD way better than airlink and the image quality is on par beween the two at a given frame rate.

On the flip side, I actually use ALVR with the ALXR client from last jan 15th since its the only one of the three that allows me straight up passthough in ANY game, like you can actually play beat saber in your living room or fight Darth Vader in your back yard at night .   IQ isn't as good but it more than makes up for it with that one feature.  And with things like FSR and Foviated rendering it gets way more than just usable.

Well, I got the second iteration of v53 and the issue with regularly disconnecting controllers with 5GHz Wi-Fi is still there. But now they disappear on a less regular basis. If in the first iteration they were disappearing once in 30s - 2 minutes, now they disappear once in 3-5 minutes. But the problem is still there and Wi-Fi 5 is still unsuable for me. Luckily I play via link cable on PCVR and 2.4 Wi-Fi is enough for me in standalone mode.

And I can't say that update was smooth. Controllers were updating much longer than the headset itself. Right controller was updating longer than the left one for some reason, and when the left one has already rebooted, the right was at 98% and then it gave me "Update failed" error. Luckily, I restarted the headset and right controller continued updating from 98%.
