PTC v55 Release Megathread

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v55 is starting to roll out for Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 soon. Thanks everyone for all your feedback on our previous builds, we several bugs were identified in the last PTC and the solutions for some have shipped, while others are on the way!

Let's use this thread for collecting feedback on v55. Share your impressions and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting here if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

For those having problems with PCVR please check your mixed reality portal and oculus apps have not been throttled by Windows 10/11 - You can see this if you go to task manager.  If they have been throttled (or should I say paused) you will see this sign next to the process (II) - two lines down.  If you see a leaf icon next to it that process is being run with efficiency mode - also not good for playing games.

None of my apps that were packaged using ES3.2 launches after v55 upgrade.

1. Open the app.

2. Loading dots for a while.

3. Back to home menu.

There were no changes to the app itself, just the quest SO update.

Now, if I repack my apps using Vulkan tehy work but at 20 fps less than the ES3.2 ones.

Dod meta just dropped support for ES3.2 without any warning?

Hello Meta team,

I too am still experiencing the white sparkle glitches. However, it has gotten substantially worse after the v55 public update.  At this point it is literally doing it every 5 seconds or so now, sometimes 20. On V54 I was able to restart the headset and it would go away until another time when I restarted at random.

I have factory reset it, and it never helped any of the times. In addition, literally right after the v55 update pushed out to the public I am seeing this issue all the time. If I choose to keep playing any game, standalone or PCVR, but especially PCVR it does not go away. Then for around a half hour after I keep seeing it in my right eye even with the headset off.

At this point, if it is not fixed soon, I am really sorry to say this but, I do not think I will continue with Meta quest headsets. Sure, there are not many alternatives right now, but I just cannot stand this issue. I'd rather just not play VR if it is like this. The issue has been present all the way since the v52 or v53 build, which is a long time. I definitely will not purchase any more games from Meta until this issue has been fixed. Because I cannot justify investing anymore into the games from the portal or a subscription of any kind if this issue and others will be constantly popping up. At this point, I think I and many others are getting pretty sick of it.

Well, I am sorry for my rant, but I really am getting very fed up with this issue. I know it takes time to fix and update software, I get that, but the fact this issue has been present for so many builds is just painful in my opinion. I also submitted a support ticket, but was told the same as others, that it is a known issue, and they are working on it. I still have not given up on Meta quest headsets, but I am definitely losing my desire to use it.

Respectfully,

Robert A.

Thank you for your time.

007xSlayerx007 Please follow along and comment in the dedicated thread for this flashing pixel issue... currently this thread is the most viewed PTC Issue thread by far (with over 1000 views and counting) -  The more we band together in one place and share our experiences the more chance the Meta Engineering team will hear us and  focus on providing a fix for this extremely widespread issue.  I share your frustration in how long this has gone one, for almost 3 months now, and I can't understand how something like this got through the quality and regression testing phase at Meta, given how many users and apps have been affected... far more than is being reported here (there are at least a dozen reddit posts dedicated to this issue) :

Thanks for the information, I will be sure to post there about this issue. Honestly, it has irritated me so much that I am no longer in support of meta platforms. Just sold every stock I owned and have decided to delete both Instagram and Facebook and untether them from my main oculus account. I am not going to delete my VR account because of my previous purchases, though it was tempting. I still hope they will fix this issue. So that at least I can continue with the VR experience. If not, I am sure that Elon Musk will take it over, well him or Valve, maybe they both will.

Over three months for the same issue and with the same problem as well as introducing new issues is just unacceptable. It tells me they have a non-existent QA team and that tells me they do not care about their user base. We are the testers, even non-PTC users. Looking at the PTC v56 forum I can tell they really do not seem to care. Which is fine, but then people will bail, like myself.
