Earlier this year, we shared an update on our renewed focus for VR and Horizon. We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience. This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app. To support this vision, we are making the following changes to streamline your Quest experience throughout 2026.

  • Meta Horizon Worlds: By March 31, 2026, Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Store on Quest. Also, Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay worlds will no longer be available in VR. You can still jump into your other favorite worlds in VR until June 15, 2026, after which the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR. After June 15, you can jump into all your favorite mobile-optimized worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  • Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta): By March 24, 2026, viewing Hyperscape captures is moving out of Horizon Worlds. Your existing captures will remain viewable within the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app and the companion Preview app, which are available in your Quest app library. You can continue capturing new Hyperscapes, but sharing, inviting, and co-experiencing Hyperscapes with others will no longer be supported.
  • Meta Horizon Plus (MH+) Perks: By March 31, 2026, Horizon-specific perks — including Meta Credits, Digital Clothing, Avatars and In-World Purchases — will be removed from the subscription. Your core MH+ gaming benefits and monthly games will not be affected.

We continue to invest in making your Quest experience better — recent updates have brought new features like Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, customizable app and window positioning, and we're continuing to roll out Navigator, our modernized interface, to more users.

Awful decision, VR is the draw, who wants to play on mobile only?

Cappix You can, if it's defective and still under warranty.

And if it’s not defective but the whole reason I bought the product was for something they’re discontinuing?

This is a bad idea.  With all this fanfare about taking away VR from worlds, I've heard NOTHING about what is going INTO Horizon Worlds.  It's going to be mobile only?  Okay; what are you giving us since you are taking away so much.  Are you going to improve the Horizon Worlds desktop app, without having to consider VR overhead; is that going to improve what is possible with Horizon Worlds; or is all this taking away mean they aren't adding anything else to it?  Is sticking with Horizon Worlds a waste of time?  That's what every one wants to know because im not feeling any confidence from Meta going forward.  Just a bunch of taking.

They cant sell worlds for money so they likely plan to kill it off slowly.

It's completely stupid and arrogant to disregard users. It's also a blow to the designers who spent a lot of time learning and designing apps. I hope you lose a lot from this traffic. I wish you all the best.

Terrible choice

I'd be reasonably okay, if there was at least some trade-off to doing this for the users and creators.  Not havin Meta Horizon on my Quest Feed, doesn't count.  It would be nice if in all that bull corporate jargon, they told us what they will be upgrading or on how the infrastructure for Horizon will be improved to support greater aspirations; but nope.  I don't get that feeling at all.

My concern is for Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture. I would like it expanded upon. Like adding starting points, putting in objects, adding on to the scans, etc. I think Meta has a good this here with the Hyperscape app and it could be amazing. Here's hoping they didn't discontinued it like what they're doing with Horizons.

My guess is the data they're harvesting from people isn't benefiting or progressing their Ai anymore.

Zuck sucks

The MHW AI subsystem typically generated incorrect scripts.

Zuck absolutely sucks.

My sister spent so much time building worlds and even clothes for Horizon in VR ...like who uses it in mobile anyway?  It of course looses all the immersiveness that made it worth using. If I am going to use a mobile app there are a lot better ones to choose from. In any case I really don't see how this is better its not like Horizon worlds cluttered up anything in the VR if you don't want to go there you don't have to.

Venus_Starseed You are right about that. The problem was, and you can find thousands of complaints throughout the forum over the past few years that it was being pushed into people's faces. They wanted a VR gaming headset but too many resources were put towards something most people don't want. From a gaming perspective we will have more independent games available on what should be just a gaming platform. There are less than a hundred people complaining here and even less over on Reddit. While I feel sorry for those invested in it, most people are probably either celebrating or don't care. And as you say there are better options available for social interaction. I don't think the mobile experience will be around for long anyways, they are just trying to let people down gently and let it die a natural death.

Im disabled. I leave my house less than once a month. This headset has been life changing for me because now I can walk around and chat with people like a real human. I bought my headset for this reason less than a year ago. You may not care, but for me this is earth shattering news. Humans with needs other than yours exist. We were made a promise. Spent money based on that promise. My income is very limited and fixed, and this was all I could spend on myself for the whole year. That promise has been broken and apparently I and people like me dont count and dont deserve to have the promises made to us kept because we arent worth it.
