Oakley Meta Vanguard can't connect to Garmin from Meta AI

Hi.

I'm using an iPhone and have the following issue trying to connect my Meta AI app to Garmin Connect. Starting in the Meta AI app:

  1. Open Devices -> Vanguard -> App connections
  2. Select Garmin
  3. Press "Connect Garmin"
  4. Press "Yes, allow" on "Allow connection to Garmin?" screen
  5. This open the Garmin Connect app on a "Meta AI" screen
  6. Press "Agree" on "Connect with Meta AI?" form
  7. This opens a link to facebook.com in Safari. I'm not sure what the full link is.
  8. What appears is my facebook feed, with a callout box at the bottom of the page reading "The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed"

My only available action at this point is to press the "X" button to dismiss the error message.

If I task-switch back to Garmin Connect it is on my landing screen.

If I task-switch back to Meta AI it is showing a blank white screen.

This process is 100% reproducible.

I can confirm that all of the relevant apps are up to date, and that my phone is on the latest public iOS.

  • Hey!

While it may not be guaranteed to work, there is a good possibility it will, as it will refresh your phone as well as the Meta AI app to make sure that everything runs as smooth as it can while trying to connect Garmin. As for uninstalling the app, you will have to pair your Oakley Meta Vanguard again,  we know pairing can be quite the work so we'll leave steps for you here so that it will be as easy as possible for you:

    1. Remove your glasses from the case.
    2. Turn your glasses on by sliding the power switch on the left frame towards the front of the glasses.
    3. Put your glasses back inside the case, making sure that you gently push down on the top of the glasses so that the bottom of the nose bridge on your glasses makes contact with the charging port inside the case.
    4. When the case LED starts flashing blue, your device is ready to pair with the Meta AI mobile app.
    5. From the Meta AI mobile app, tap in the bottom right.
    6. Tap in the top right and follow the on-screen instructions.
      • If your device doesn't automatically go into pairing mode, you can manually turn pairing mode on by pressing and holding the button on the back of the case for at least 5 seconds.

We hope this helped and if the problem does persist, then please let us know and we'll look closer into it.

    Thank you!

Hey there, we hear that the Meta AI app seems to have some troubles connecting with Garmin Connect, that's of course not ideal so let's work together to try and get this problem fixed.

Since it seems to route you to a broken link, we'd recommend uninstalling the Meta AI app and restarting your phone, afterwards please reinstall the app and try connecting Garmin again.

This should resolve the problem and get your Meta AI app connected, however if the problem persists, then please get back to us!

Thank you and have a wonderful day

  • Hi.

Would uninstalling the Meta AI app (which I installed literally today for the first time) require me to set the glasses up again? If the answer is yes, then I'd like you to tell me exactly how sure you are that this will work, because that was a fair amount of work and this fix sounds speculative.

    Thanks.

I’m at a loss as to explain why but this seems to have worked.

With a caveat. Once I had connected it to Garmin I was asked to “Enable Meta AI” to access connected features. Pressing the “Configure” button took me to this menu, and none of the options in this menu had any effect on this:

I had to navigate to the Communication menu (I think) and connect my Phone, and I was then prompted to “Enable Meta AI” with a menu flow for this, and then I could go back and complete the app connections.

Aside from having to find that out myself, I think the Garmin and Strava integrations I was trying to enable now both work.

        Thanks for your help.

  • hey guys im having the same problem and it does not appear the strava connection either, I tried a lot of different things like uninstalling both apps and re-doing the whole process again but I can't seem to connect it, I've tried to reach out to support but I don't get any answers back, please help me.

      Hello!

I don’t think this is necessarily going to help much because I don’t work for Meta or in their support, but I can tell you that I didn’t need to do anything special to see Strava or Garmin in my list of apps.

Do you have the Strava, Garmin Connect, and Connect IQ apps on your phone, are they up to date, are you logged in to each of them?

  • This did not solve the issue after reinstalling. Please look into the broken link issue.

I have the exact same problem and have followed every piece of troubleshooting advice. Garmin is the only app that won’t connect and it’s the only reason I bought these glasses in the first place.

  • Dear Meta Team.

I also have problem with the connection from Garmin to Oakley Meta Vanguard. After I paired my Vanguard, I couldn’t see any Garmin menu in App Connection. I already update all of the apps (Garmin Connect, Garmin Connect IQ Store, and Meta AI) and also the Vanguard and my Garmin watch (Fenix 8 51mm Amoled)

I have the same issue, not seeing Garmin in the connected app liist in Meta ai app. I have Meta ai as data field in my Garmin activities already and it show glasses with slash which means it has not connected yet. While in meta ai app, I uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted the phone, restarted my Garmin device, force restarted the Vanguard. There is still no Garmin as one of the list to be connected with in meta ai app. I am using Android (Google pixel) phone. Do you get any update from Meta support team?

No replies, but for some reason about 24 hours after my issue it suddenly connected to my Garmin and has been working ever since.
