Question

Black Screen randomly during gameplay

Like other posts, same symptoms not game dependent, power off and on, things work ok for a while then 3 dots, screen goes black, sometimes i still hear game, Thrill of the fight in background. If i move my head up and down, vigorously, i get the 3 dots then the game comes on where it left off. It's sporadic. But similar things are happening to others on here. I can't find the support phone number

I have been having the same issue, I tried to do what Skifrog recommended however that did not work for me, the quest 2 would still go black randomly even with tape on the sensor....

How I fixed this was using side quest to disable the proximity sensor, after I did that I was able to play Resident evil again with no interruptions.

I guess this happened to too many people now, but for me started a few days ago, at first i thought it was just a game, (synth riders) and this was the same: black screen randomly while playing, music still been heard, somethimes i could see oculus logo when pressing on the control, some others don't (completely random) also because synthriders is a game with many "ligthing" i could see a little line at the end of the fov, the screen isn't completely black but grey. So it seems more a software problem, i cleaned the guardian, and everything seemed fine for some minutes, then i wanted to play another game, and the same.
Before i cleaned the guardian was working worst sometimes even hard reboot didn't worked out, some other i just waited and i had image again. and one time i saw my own character but only the body (headless) kinda creeped me out ðŸ˜… yeah, so i still having the issue. what to do?

I have the exact problem on my Quest 2 - screen display goes black on game play or watching video.   after a few secondary, the display restores, and resume from the previous location.   I can also hear the background sound sometime.

I have tried

  1. changing the power setting making it 30+min for display off
  2. Following the video, hard-reboot
  3. Following the video, factory reset

Unfortunately, none of the above three helps.    Any other suggestions?

Hi there, lan.ke.501! Having your display randomly go black during game play is not the VR experience we want you to have. We want to help you get back to a smooth and enjoyable VR gaming experience as soon as possible. Thank you for taking the time to attempt the troubleshooting steps previously provided. We wanted to bring to light some information on how an improperly fitting headset can also cause your display to go black during gameplay. As user Drewszthelegend mentioned on 02/03/22, they were able to adjust the headset to resolve the issue.

This is due to the proximity sensor that sits above the lenses, which is how the headset determines if the user is wearing it or not. If your headset is not secured properly during gameplay, exaggerated or quick movements can cause the proximity sensor to think that you have removed the headset, causing the screen to go black. If you have ensured your headset is properly fitted and secured to your head and are still experiencing this issue, then please send us a PM so that we can create a support ticket for you and have our specialist provide you with additional support. Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

The same thing is happening to me. But instead of three black thoughts It's just a full black screen. I'm not talking about the black screen when you turn off your headset completely. But I'm talking about the black screen. You see before you turn off. And then I have to press the power button. Twice Before I can go back and it does it again.

Seems like the support is better with Meta. But they're cautious about telling us the actual problem with our headset.  Likely as not, most of us shouldn't be attempting to disassemble one of these things anyways.  But I guess I would ask if I was actually informed.  Catch22! Anyhow they're not going to lay it all out for Anyone. Why would they when it's an opportunity to make money "repairing" for you professionally?  Or neglect the situation and force an eventual upgrade.  Either way meta seems like they care at least. Remember it was you that damaged the dang thing thinking you was someplace else. Don't feel bad, my first experience was the worst!
